Reezekeys
I did not know him or take lessons with him, as I think some here have (T?), however the announcement of his passing came up on my Facebook feed because we have mutual friends, and I see it hasn't been posted yet. Apparently he was a victim of the coronavirus. I know he gave classes and played with his big band every week at the Bahai Center in NYC, and was much admired for his teaching efforts. Sadly, I never got to experience seeing his band. Please everyone stay home and stay safe - these are scary times.
OB Dave
Oh wow, that's terrible news. I never met Mark in person, but over the course of about 25 years we've had many extensive email conversations. Just a great guy. So sad. Be well everyone!
Analogaddict
I love his playing on the Dizzy albums - my introduction was 'Swing Low, Sweet Cadillac'... RIP!
DroptopBroham
This has me bummed, studied online/correspondence with him several years ago. He was a really nice guy and I was waiting for more him to come out with more DVDs.
LX88
This is ominous. I had often considered getting one of the improv books he used to advertise in down Beat. I hope this material will still be available because I think Mike was on to something. He was possibly Dizzy Gillespie's most avid student. BRW
He also created one of the most sampled tracks. I have the vinyl, '900 Shares Of The Blues' . [video:youtube]
