How did I wind up on a King Crimson release?

At a King Crimson show, many years back (2003), I got to ask Robert Fripp how he was running his Guitar synth rig, and he was kind enough to direct me to his Guitar tech, John Sinks, who took me through the signal chain. FWIW, I went out and bought a Roland US-20 Unit Selector the next day, as that was the box that allowed Fripp to drive two GR units from one Guitar.

 

Just the other day, I saw a post on FB, where DGM had uploaded that show, including the Q&A at the end, as a download. At the very beginning of the Q&A, you'll hear Trey Gunn making fun of a fan who appears so "earnest" that maybe they shouldn't call on him? I was that fan, and they were kind enough to address my question, which you can hear along with Robert Fripp's reply. Robert Fripp also gives a brief burst of the solo from "Fracture" during the Q&A, which is worth hearing on its own.

I got backstage at a Cheap Trick concert once, Rick Neilson was allowing people who had vintage guitars and amps to be escorted backstage.

I sold him a TV front Fender Deluxe from the early 50's. He told me he did not have one yet.

A few months later an article about his collection was in Guitar Player magazine.

There was a photo of a stack of narrow front Fender Tweeds with one TV front Deluxe in it, the one I sold him.

 

I also brought a headless guitar I had designed and built from scratch - the "Ann Boleyn" model.

I still have it, need to resurrect it one of these days. Rick told me it was "too weird" for him.

I have gotten to meet a lot of performers, most of them because I was the guy with a car for a friend who was a freelancer for Kerrang! But I really wasn"t asking questions- she was, in her professional capacity. As her +1, you"re not really supposed to make a big fuss. The most I usually did was decline an offer of drugs from the bass player. And smiled a lot.

 

Sometimes, I was also her out from unwelcome offers.

Grand ole Opry show, 1957 in St Paul, Mn. We went out back after the show and there were Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins. It was cold and snowing they got us cab home. I don't remember everyone who was on the bill but here are a few: Homer & Jethro, Minnie Pearl, Carl Smith and Ferlin Husky.

I wrote Roy Clark's keno tickets at the Mint casino in 68 or 69. He was performing there and playing keno after his show.
