Me too, but that just means that we'll have to plan it!

Hey Ed....had no idea you were in New Braunfels.

One of these days when we're playing down in Austin or Houston I'll shoot you a note. Joe's been to a couple of our Houston shows.... and I need a replacement for him...LOL :w00t:

I subscribed :)

Ed, if you're listening...Gibson was my first job (did it for four and a half years), and it was a great experience. I learned a lot, and it was cool having a regular paycheck and benefits. But I gotta admit, I like being self-employed again. You never know what's around the corner. For example I did a self-published eBook as an experiment, and it sold so well I'm now working on my fifth self-published book. It's WAY more profitable, and less stressful, than working with a conventional publisher. I would never have had the time to do that while I was with Gibson.

Currently there's a desperate need for companies to educate their users, and now you have a much bigger playing field than one company! I'm sure you'll maximize those opportunities.

In fact, I am planning on moving forward to continue to not only support Roland keyboard users, but now I am planning on expanding to other manufacturers

Maybe this is a good place to suggest some videos for the Juno DS? I had posted these to your facebook feed when you asked for suggestions for Juno DS tutorials, but I think they may have been too late and you had moved on to other things. But here's what I've found baffling on the DS:

1. I'd like more info about Matrix Control. For example (and I think these things are possible), setting up a Patch or Performance where your expression pedal does modulation or a filter sweep, or setting up your sustain pedal so it switches organ rotary speed or bends pitch (the latter making more sense if you have a continuous/half-damper pedal).

2. I'd like to see a demonstration of how to set up the MFX CTRL knob to control whichever effect(s) you want it to control in a given patch or performance. For example, setting up a Split Performance that has 2 MFX on one of its sounds and one on the other (I know the max is three MFX at once).

3. I would like to see a better explanation/demonstration for how to use the new 2.0 function of being able to assign MIDI Program Changes to the Favorites buttons, to integrate additional sounds from an external device.

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)

Ed,

Thank you for your service all these years! You did great.

It has been people like you, Mike Acosta and Jim Stout who"ve been the foundation for my enthusiasm for Roland keyboards.

When Roland let Mike and Jim go in the early 2000"s, I have to say, my interest in Roland cooled quite a bit. Actually, it was about a decade before I bought anything new from them again!

There were other factors, of course, but I don"t think Roland recognizes, in this small community, the bad blood that can be generated by decisions like these. The intangible work of many in companies is the first they fail to recognize, so when they go through 'cost cutting cycles,' to put it euphemistically, they often cut their own hands off and hearts out in the process, and when things subsequently start to fail.... they have no idea what hit them!

I"ve been through many cycles of downturns, throughout multiple careers, and finally had a chance to retire and get away from all the BS forever, despite what I"m told were repeated successes all along the way. I can finally see, looking back, that my successes were very real, and my layoffs had nothing to do with me or the quality of my work.

So I"m free to speak my piece now, without the corporate or social media yoke around my neck; freedom is a wonderful thing!

I wish you luck with your YouTube channel; I"d much prefer to tune in there than to the many, 'wassup guys' squeegees trained to squeal with joy in return for being bribed with free synths, and offer little of substance or experience in their presentations. You don"t have much good competition out there, honestly.

You"re moving out of a dying profession and into a growing one, and I"m sure will have many opportunities. I will subscribe soon.

Don"t forget the little guys, like ASM, Baloran, Waldorf, even Moog and Sequential, they all cling by their fingernails in the face of an overload of work every day, and I"m sure could all use your help.

Best,

Steven

Interesting side note: the end of the paid product specialist position and replacement of it by YouTubers strikes me as very much the marketing industry equivalent of Lyft and Uber replacing taxi companies.

You have people with no training, licensing, benefits or wage and employment structure - gig workers, so euphemistically called - replacing more expensive labor.

Almost all work in tech has also become 'contract' work, to the point that companies now rarely hire FT employees, but instead negotiate from pools of temp workers with temp agencies.

This is becoming the new norm everywhere it"s possible, and it"s a radical shift of employment to something that is far more precarious than it used to be.

Getting back on track (not sure how this ended up with a "are nords too expensive" debate) I can empathize with the situation having been there twice myself as well as sympathize for Ed but the bottom line is welcome to the 21st century of earnings driven performance. Ed will land on his feet and there won't be enough boycotting of any Roland products to put a dent in their sales.

Roland. I don't need to tell Ed what they did with their premiere V-Accordion product evangelist and demonstrator. Pages and pages of angry people over on the accordion forums about that debacle a couple of years ago.

I own two Roland V-accordions and that's because they are the ONLY player in the game that does what they do as well as they do it.

Best of luck to you.

There are multiple reasons to shout F*** Roland, hirings and firings are low on the list. Crippled hardware releases and 'subscription' based resource heavy garbage for extremely 'meh' virtual releases is a good start.

That company needs an enema and reorg fast.

I just now jumped back into this thread and saw your post Ed. I subscribed and echo what everyone else has said. I've watched your vids for years and I'm a big fan. As a typical nerd keyboard player every time something new comes out on YT from whomever I'm checking it out so I've probably watched 90% of your vids. I picked up a used FA06 last year so i was all over your series on how to set it up. You're the best and I'm sure this will work out just fine for you.

Is there a link to the streams from earlier today? Heard a couple days ago that Ed was back. Glad Roland fixed that mistake, hopefully they gave him a promotion or at least a raise. The man deserves it! He's been a huge part of convincing me to get a Roland workstation hopefully later this year.

Ed and Scott Berry are doing livestream on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday around Noon PST on Ed's own YouTube. They are Roland focused and really cool because the viewers are helping each other a lot in the chat as well as what Ed and Scott provide. Also Ed has been pulling in other Roland FE's and users from to hear a lot of different points of view.
