I've been a couple of times, long ago when I lived in Fresno and did guitar repair for some local shops.

I got to see all sorts of interesting things, not sure how it is today.

2 memorable things to consider. First, the big players - Yamaha, Fender, Peavey, Roland etc. all threw big parties in the ballroom of the hotels around the area. Our NAMM tags got us in, we chose the Yamaha party since it was in the same hotel as we were. They didn't take the time to find out who we were, we just more or less walked right in. All the great food and drink you could ever want. They had a large, circular revolving stage sectioned off by a wall. One half of the stage had a jazz trio with a Yamaha grand piano, Yamaha electric bass and a set of Yamaha drums being played by LA's finest, the other side of the stage had a modern (for the time) electronic band playing synths, electronic drums, etc. The music changed slowly and constantly from one act to the other. Anyway, there may be no reason to spend money on dinner at least.

The other thing is that I had a few friends who brought cash and purchased gear at the end of the show when everybody is breaking down and packing up. There were some real bargains to be had. Not sure how/if this still happens but it might be worth asking around.

Have fun!

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

They aren't supposed to sell individuals gear, but here and there they do anyway I think. I'll remember about that for the last day, though. Good tip!

They weren't sopposed to sell gear then either but reason goes out the window when you are exhausted and would rather not have to pack all that stuff.

Dunno what they do about superstars, I saw Ronnie Wood from the Stones wandering around. I'm guessing a phone call from the rep on the floor to the head honchos would get him just about anything, gratis...
