Gallien Krueger 800rb repair advice

A longtime bass player friend of mine recently passed away and I'm trying to figure out if his amp head is worth repairing. The amp turns on and slowly fades away in like 20 seconds. Once it surged when turned on. Someone told me the power section is blown out and its not worth fixing. Just wondering if thats the case. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks

Contact Gallen Krueger support and see what they say. They've probably seen this many times. Hard to say if they have parts. If they don't, not many people will.

I had that head, should have kept it. I ran it in bi-amp mode into a Peavey cabinet that had 1-15" and 2-8"s. The 15" was replaced with an EVM 15.

It was a great amp.

So it comes down to - do you need it? Do you want it?

Even if you can get a working head for less, one that's been serviced at the factory is going to last a good long time.

It took a chunk of my life to get here and I am still not sure where "here" is.

If practicality is the goal, then I'm totally in the Not Worth Fixing lobby. Sombitch kinda heavy. Amps don't need to be that heavy anymore, and they're not as expensive as they used to be. I'd still take a half hour and do a little once-over. Is the fuse blown? Loose wires or blackened parts on the inside?

If there are sentimental reasons for the amp, then clearly you should have it fixed. And I'm sad to hear of your loss.

Things are just the way they are, and they're only going to get worse.
