Dr Mike Metlay
Things are tough all over, but they could always be worse, I suppose... I once got a letter at the magazine, thanking me for a particular article. Handwritten in a slightly shaky hand, it introduced a gentleman (photo included) who apparently did music as either a hobby or a full-time vocation. His preferred jam was to stand outside stores in his small town in the deep South, playing back music on a boombox and accompanying it on the cowbell. This successful cowbell busker said that he was frequently welcomed on stage at festivals to accompany bands, and believed that success and happiness were within reach of anyone who was willing to put in some hard work and maintain a good attitude. The Publishers and I were so tickled by his letter that we sent him a RECORDING baseball cap. Two weeks later, we got another letter: "Thanks a lot for the cap. Tell Glyn Johns to keep up the good work." What can you say to that? mike Quote Dr. Mike Metlay (PhD in nuclear physics, golly gosh) Musician, Author, Editor, Educator, Impresario, Online Radio Guy, Cut-Rate Polymath, and Kindly Pedant Editor-in-Chief, Bjooks ~ Author of SYNTH GEMS 1 clicky!: more about me ~ my radio station (and my fam) ~ my local tribe ~ my day job ~ my book ~ my music
