TLDR: Happy thanksgiving Paul and everyone!

Longer:

Back on the topic of quitting.. Paul is using the term here to highlight a very specific and personal circumstance. Broadening the definition & discussion, quitting, or stopping something, can be a very important action. A business example â I worked in the videogame business for a number of years, super profitable, globally recognized brand, in what I would call a fantastically well run company. The company at any point in time would be building a range of games, through a well-oiled and disciplined game development process. Not all of them would be winners, no one has a 100% perfection success ratio. If you do have 100%, you"re probably not taking any chances.

So, this well run company periodically would 'quit', or pull the plug on a game, even after significant $$$$ and resources had been expended. These were not willy nilly decisions, they were well informed, but often painful and difficult. Quitting these games often meant jobs & careers were on the line, involved shutting down studios, laying people off, and writing off the often substantial dollars that had been invested. And sometimes the quitting decisions may not always have been correct (in hindsight), but in most cases, history would bear out that the quitting decisions were the right thing to do for the overall health of the business.

Applying this concept back to Paul, or any of us here in this community â many of us have stopped playing at one point or another. May not always have been the right decision. Sometimes it"s an easy call, other times very hard.

But in this season, I"m thankful for having the ability to make choices, whether to start, whether to quit, where and how to live. In many parts of the world, they don"t have the choices most of us have.

So thank you Paul, for giving me something to think about, and thanks to everyone in this fantastic community!

Quit.

I don't see the big deal behind " I am quilting "

and what does quilting have to do if I buy a Fantom or MODX ?

I would have never guessed there would be 5 pages here of keyboard players talking about quilting.

whats next ? Where to buy quilting needles and fabric to use during breaks at gigs ???

Why fit in, when you were born to stand out ?

That's what I'm asking as well. People buy and sell gears with or without a musical motive all the time! Almost everybody has an app that has something to do with music on their phones/iPads..etc. What's so strange or tragic about selling gears you've NEVER had a use for? How is that quitting?

Yes, I'm wondering like Sam, quit from what? You did a face palm in response to his query but there's no evidence you are musical in any way at this point or plan to be. So quit already. I do find it annoying that you've gotten honest, caring responses and that in fact, you seem to be mostly looking for attention. This is the last look I'll give this thread.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case here. This forum has got to be one of the best music forums on the planet and Paul's countless quitting threads are a proof for that. I challenge him to make such posts on forums like Avid and he'll get roasted in no time. To give him the benefit of the doubt, I looked up his history real quick and looks like he's been threatening to quit 'something' since 2016. Half of his threads are about I'm watching too much porn, I never cared for anything, I'm 'fascinated' with synths, but I only plug them in once just to see if they work and of course those terrible childhood piano lessons...over and over and over. Every single time, he received pages and pages of support and genuine responses from fellow musicians who tried to be helpful in many ways. People consistently went out of their way to make those bullshit posts right. They even shared their own personal problems ...etc. The point is, all of us need help one way or another. There's no question about that, but to abuse such a fine community for personal attention?

On a positive note, I'm thankful to be a member of such community on this blessed day. This is the place to visit for getting help, advice and motivation indeed. It really is! Gotta quit for Thanksgiving dinner...

Paul is a good guy, and I consider him a friend. Yeah, he does go through these phases of trying to figure out what he's trying to do with music, but I don't think he deserves to be insulted or treated like a troll. JMO, he does need to figure this out about himself, but unless saying, "cut that crap out!!" makes him stop and really fix this for himself once and for all, there's no need to insult nor berate him.

I'd second this, and also suggest those berating need to understand Asperger's a little better ;)

As someone who didn't get the diagnosis until I was already in my 60s, I try every day to understand it better. I'd also suggest that if you understood it, you would understand why I grew impatient with this thread. I never felt I was berating Paul, just (in a typically un-empathetic way) wanted him to make his own decision and get on with it.
