The Real MC
Some websites have search engines that are just plain useless. Like SoundOnSound. It searches the SOS forums, and returns EVERY post with the keyword in the thread title, even if the post doesn't contain the keyword! I get so tired of scrolling past so many of them that I just give up. Google and Duckduckgo are much better - site:soundonsound.com is your friend. KuruPrionz
Recently switched to Duck Duck Go. Was a bit tricky in Firefox until I googled it (lol). Firefox has it installed already and won't allow you to activate anything except the version they supply. It's super easy once you get that. Most forums have abysmal search engines. I use my primary search engine, enter the question that I have and add the word "forum". This usually yeilds interesting information. Joe Muscara
The MPF search engine is better than it was before the update, though. Quote "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! EscapeRocks
The MPF search engine is better than it was before the update, though. I've been so conditioned over the past 16 years I've never used Guess I'll try. stoken6
I've found that the built-in UBB search is now usable. For some reason Google isn't finding hits for me - .robots preventing indexing? Cheers, Mike.
CowboyNQ
I have always struggled with the KC search engine too - I find the Google system that Sven Golly shared in the sticky "searching for info on this forum" works very well. Confess I've not tried to use the KC engine since the update. I share David's fears of altering space/time irrevocably and watching the universe collapse in on itself. AnotherScott
Changing the search engine here from 2 years to 3 years helped, though pianoworld (same basic software) is better with 4 years. Really, my biggest complaint about it is that you can't have it show threads instead of posts, which means if 50 posts in a single thread meet your criteria, that's 50 hits instead of 1 (and of course, you've still got the limit of 100 hits total). Using google isn't always a good answer. If you're searching for posts about a particular piece/combination of gear, google will give you hits if someone just listed the item in their sig, which the local search properly does not. And google's advanced options page is long gone, making it difficult (if not impossible?) to do some boolean searches. There seems to be no clear pattern as to whether adding another search term will increase or decrease your number of hits. Quote Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)
