If a picture is worth a thousand words, how come I can sum this one up in under a hundred? Maybe a dozen?

"Yeah, I'm thrilled to play this bass. You should, too."

Never mind that I've never seen him play one live; just Fenders & Laklands.

Any other gear ads that inspire you to NOT purchase the subject piece?

It just says that he's checking out the new Spirit collection. I've checked out various things in my past, I certainly wouldn't want them all.
Not exactly a ringing endorsement but he certainly does look excited.

To the contrary, I don't think an artist endorsement or ad has ever made me want buy a piece of gear.

But has it ever driven you away, even from something you might be interested in? This one would scare me off.

Not that I can recall. Advertisements in general may or may not pique my interest, but artist endorsements are not a factor.

That being said, he does not look happy to be here.

A bit OT but in the spirit of the OP's title.......

When did indexes go out of style? I received the GC Holiday 19 catalog with the title "Be Heard" screaming across the cover. So I take it into the bathroom, er, library, and start to peruse some pages looking for an index to find keys and basses. There isn't one. Tons of positive attitude about music, some artists' latest releases, etc., but trying to find a Fender Jazz is still a mystery. Maybe my edition is missing pages? At least the guys in Indiana know how to organize information.

Rant over. Gotta chase some kids off my lawn........

Print catalogs are outrageously expensive, both in cash and labor. Music retailers would have to see a palpable revenue correlation to return to comprehensive catalogs (which have always been far from comprehensive anyway). The Internet has killed the appetite for creating catalogs.

"For instance" is not proof.
