ade2
Hi! I'm new to this forum and fairly new to this approach (automation) so this might be a dumb question so I apologize in advance but I would just like to verify am I even on a right track with my understanding of this. I haven't had any luck with answers on the Gearslutz subforum so I figured I'll ask here. The stereo synth on the chorus, is this just an envelope/cutoff written automation or is there another element to getting the synth to behave exactly like this? Except being sidechained to the kick. Or if you could point me in the direction of what to look for exactly, link to a video, tutorial, anything. Thanks!

Dr Mike Metlay
Hi Ade, Welcome to MPN! Actually, it wouldn"t surprise me if that chorus synth sound started out with kick sidechaining, based on its behavior. But that"s definitely not all there is to the story. The behavior is a little too uniform for it to be hand drawn automation⦠My best guess is that there is a sidechain pulling it down, but the programmer probably also took time to adjust the envelope so that it was in perfect time with the beat. A combination of those two, plus a bit of judicious editing on one or two notes, would get you there. I hope this helps! mike Quote Dr. Mike Metlay (PhD in nuclear physics, golly gosh) Musician, Author, Editor, Educator, Impresario, Online Radio Guy, Cut-Rate Polymath, and Kindly Pedant Editor-in-Chief, Bjooks ~ Author of SYNTH GEMS 1 clicky!: more about me ~ my radio station (and my fam) ~ my local tribe ~ my day job ~ my book ~ my music
