zxcvbnm098
Thanks indeed for a wonderful career that brought so much joy to all of us, whether from behind the console or with a guitar in his hands. He was the epitome of a player with big ears, playing just the right part for the song; nothin more, or nothing less. I have posted this interview before (I think), but it's worth doing again. This is the late Jim Dickinson's recollection of the Rolling Stones session that of course Jimmy engineered...Jim played piano on Wild Horses. Mark Schmieder
Another sad loss of an industry icon. My condolences especially to those who knew him as a friend and colleague, as Steve did. He certainly left his mark on many genres. I have a lot of family history in that town, and it's also the site of the Helen Keller Hospital. Florence, Sheffield, and Muscle Shoals operate more or less as one entity. LX88
It's pretty hard to know who did what at Muscle Shoals without a scorecard , however.... Is this the guy who played the main guitar licks on Wilson Pickett's " Funky Broadway" ? I have a hunch it is . If so he fits the very definition of soul guitar. I think that Funky Broadway is as cool as anything that Steve Cropper or anyone else ever did in that style.

Mark Schmieder
Such a list! Thanks for putting that together (well, rather, for curating it from the original source). It makes for an interesting study of styles and trends as well. I probably first became aware of him by name (in terms of actual listed credits) via Paul Simon's work -- though I had by then already heard him on quite a bit of material. Can't remember if he was initially credited on the Rolling Stones album as were Nicky Hopkins, Billy Preston, and others. B3bluesman59
During my 23 years at Capitol Records as a promotion and marketing dude I had the chance to work with the Muscle Shoals guys when Capitol signed a distribution deal with their lable MSS Music. I remember sitting in Jimmy's office and asking him why they all stayed in Muscle Shoals. He said to me...."We all did the sessions stuff, played in tour bands, etc. EEveryone always told us how good we were so we decided if that was the case we could start our own thing right here in Muscle Shoals and if we were that good they would come to us. It has worked out pretty good for all of us....and remember, a dollar goes a lot further in Muscle Shoals than it does in LA."
