Acoustic Ecologist

Recommended Posts

This morning I heard an interesting interview on APM's On Being show, with Gordon Hempton. He calls himself an acoustic ecologist - he records, collects, studies, and writes about the sounds present in quiet places. He has some records out. The interview gets a little ethereal in places, and philosophical, but I listened through the whole things and didn't regret it. Maybe it'll be an inspiration for a new gig if you have any ears left after playing drums since you were twelve.

Listen here - No video, just audio. You can download it as a podcast if you have an hour train ride coming up.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll check it out. What you're saying reminds me a bit of Bernie Krause, who has traveled all over the world to collect animal sounds. He says there is no longer any place on earth where you don't hear man-made sounds.
