Anybody have any experience with this? I can get one used for $199. Im using a Pod now but would rather have a format with some footswitches. My primary need is just basic amp modeling with ability to switch clean/dirty and boost. This is marketed as an stompbox modeler, so does that mean it's intended to use in front of an amp or is it good stand alone? About 50% of its duties with be for keyboard, so the MIDI I/O is nice. If ever had my eye on the HX stomp, but don't have the budget for it right now.

@J. Dan - IME, the M-series are purely stomp box modelers, which is to say, they don't have the Amp modeling that you want, just effects models.

Here's an affordable alternative, with Amp modeling. I heard a Loop Musician with one of these processing a Boss Looper and a Roland JD-xi, and he was getting very impressive sounds.

Boss GT-1B Bass MFX

A friend who is a guitarist working out of Branson had a M9 with his Quilter rig board to handle all his non drive non compressor effects. I asked him about it and he was pleasantly surprised with it. My impression it isn't his favorite thing ever but it was very functional for his needs in a compact working rig. The M9 just mimics stomp boxes.

The HX stomp is a whole different animal. I was going to get the HX Stomp to replace half my board. I still might if I don't retire in December. I'm on the fence about playing on. I have some options but so far the gigs are too much traveling. This dog is too old to hunt. But I played some fill in gigs with a band using the Helix stuff and it sounds good direct. It sounds like a real amp. I could use the HX to send guitars through the keyboards submix and leave the Boogie at home.

@ CEB, maybe you could do a few local gigs now and then as a musician for hire and still have a little fun. The traveling bit along with loading and unloading is not a lot of fun on a regular basis but twice a month could be fun...good luck whichever way you go! thu

Take care, Larryz
