Philip Clark
A friend of mine summarized this as Stevie's "Sandy Koufax Years." So glad to see someone delve into this era more. Bootsy
Nice analogy! I remember someone describing Stevie as being in "the hands of God" when he recorded the trifecta of Innervisions, Fulfillingness' First Finale and Songs in the Key of Life. Truly a masterful arc. Kawai James
This appeared on YouTube's recommendations last night, while I was browsing for short clips to play on my iPad while doing the washing up. It's really nicely put together, and summarises the period very well. I appreciated the reference to the colour palette used for the album covers too! BRW
Its so nice to see these high quality amateur documentaries pop up on YouTube. This guy (Polyphonic) and Alex Ball are recent favorites.
Docbop
Talking Book and Intervisions were recorded at the same time. I was hanging at some sessions at Record Plant for a possible supergroup that Joe Walsh was producing. Stevie Wonder was in doing Talking Book and Intervisons in another room at Record Plant. We'd see Stevie now and then coming and going to his studio and one night he came in and hung out for awhile the sessions Joe Walsh was producing. Being around Stevie is kind of spooky because he acclimates to new surrounding so fast you'd swear he can see. After that is when Stevie stopped working at Record Plant and started recording over at Crystal Sound which he used a lot. Stevie is one of my all time favorite musicians and composers since his first hit Fingertips part 2.
RandyFF
Very cool, thanks for sharing, didn't have much biography on SW, gives me renewed appreciation. Didn't know he played most of the instruments himself. Kawai James
Cool story Docbop! ...After that is when Stevie stopped working at Record Plant and started recording over at Crystal Sound which he used a lot. Any idea if something went down that influenced Stevie to stop working at the Record Plant? Cheers, James x Quote Employed by Kawai Japan, however the opinions I express are my own. Jim Alfredson
Good video. Those albums are absolute masterpieces. I even like The Secret Life of Plants. And Hotter Than July is great, too.
