Toronto Jazz Guitarist Ed Bickert died on Feb 28 at the age of 86. He will be greatly missed

Ed Bickert Dead at 86 - Ottawa Citizen

Not sure if this has already been mentioned here (I didn't see a thread about it).

One of the tastiest jazz guitarists ever.

Master Canadian sessioneer.
Check his string bending, hammers & subtle timing here.
Also the Farlow-like fret span of his L hand !

This one's, uh, sleepier rolleyes but if ya dial ahead to 4:05, where the gtr slowly comes to the fore, & listen to the solo you'll hear some intriguing note choices & range jumps over the next 3 minutes.

Even if he disdained rock music, he deigned to play w/ Randy Bachman & Merle Travis here.

This cat's a bit too talkative but has a few worthwhile comments.

A fave of mine too, I've often mentioned Ed here in discussions about how fat, hollowed bodied guitars are NOT essential for playing jazz.
d's clips are a great tribute to a great Master, no, MAESTRO of jazz guitar. Thanks for those...
I started out with NOTHING...and I still have most of it left!

Aaaawww.... I'm sorry to learn that. What a great and unique player all-around. Seemed like a really nice guy, too.

A very fine player, well respected by his fellow musicians if mostly unknown to the general public; in the US at any rate.
