On the heels of the news about Peter Frampton, I saw a TV ad announcing a BOB SEGER "farewell" tour this summer! cry

I guess at 73 he figures he'll progressively give less than he'd prefer on stage and decided to slow down, I don't know. I just know my being a fan and loyal supporter for 50+ years still makes me feel good about it all, and those memories of the $2 at the door fees at all those Aquinas high school dances in '68 will always be fondly remembered. I just wish I still had my old "East Side Story" 45rpm record from '66. frown

laugh Yeah, I know----"The" Last Heard! wink So...OK......

I have a couple of friends going to see Bob this Friday in Sacramento. Glad they got tickets if this is going to be his last tour. Wishing Bob all the best in retirement! One of my favorite songs of his is Shame on the Moon:

Let's remember that some "farewell" tours have been going on nearly forever.
I can only hope that's the case for The George Clinton Retirement Tour !

On the 'nother hand, let's remember how fast Prince let the stage---don't miss what you can !

Kinda partial to `Fire Lake` myself-but that one is also a gem.

I liked Bob's version of one of the Woddy Guthrie lyrics that Wilco set to music from a few years ago...

Even at his level of comfort, I'm sure the road just gets to be too much after 50 years...

"East Side Story" = a worthy recasting of Van Morrison's "Gloria".
"Shame on (The) Moon" = nice...BS always had (has) a way w/ballads.
The others I'll get around to soon...

Some might say Bob Seger's the model for cats like John Fogerty or Steve Miller---constantly able to craft a catchy tune & fit in w/kinda mainstream, heart-tugging.

I always liked his edgier stuff.

We start w/ a BANG !
Over one of the most primal chord progs of rock music Bob translates the blues into the modern world in a way Mick Jagger & even Eric Burdon only imagined---plus he make the audacious performance decision to hold the mic & play organ w/ only one hand !

2+2=? might come next but ya can hear that above.
So we'll move on to (The) Far East from whence he casts a comment back at Chuck Berry, over at Brian Wilson & hints at both urban stress & a potentail solution.
Props to Drew Abott, on what we can only call geetar rawk & the most appropriately named Alto Reed on saxomophone.

Bob lays the voodoo down harder than Lou Reed ever could.

As for his softer material, I don't think anything tops this slice of late-night, urban nostalgia, here presented 1st in it's full studio aural glory & then it's live inter-pretty-ation.
Again, although echoed by Barry Beckett on synth, that's Mr Drew Abott teaching a lesson abt the emotive power of the guitar. cool

I don't know why YouTube took down Shame on (The) Moon...there are many posting of the tune. Try this one if you missed it the 1st time:

Hard to say, LarZ.
Usually that happens when someone w/some (C) power challenges the posting &, indeed, this is what we get when we click that link...

We "long timers" kinda poked fun of "Shame On The Moon" by saying things like"Country BOB'S newest hit! " wink

But nice tune too.

One we here in my hometown liked was THIS one, in which he does mention( we liked to think) our hometown... wink @ the 1:29 mark ("We all got homesick for Lincoln Park[imagine!]" )
wink

@ d, I don't remember the details but the 1st post worked and was later taken down with the messages you read. So I went back and found another and the 2nd post by a different person/company works. I have seen this happen before and it probably has to do with licensing. Out of country and different companies, artists, families, etc., postings can still be watched when others are taken down. I always check my youtube posts and if they don't work, I go to edit, then delete, and delete the post. Then find another and repost it. You have to do this within the 1st 24 hours or so as deletes and edit functions on this forum get blocked. Anyway, it's working for now... cool

@ Fang, wouldn't want you to miss Country Bobs newest hit LOL! I knew he was one of your local boys... cool

Well, neither were that much of a "departure" for THAT Bob, so the term wasn't even considered.

and too bad LARRY, YOU DIDN'T( OR maybe COULDN'T?) find an original clip of that tune from the "John Wesley Harding" LP---

Was too, a long favorite of mine from that LP.

BTW( and a bit o' derailment) Did you find all the "hidden Dylans" in the cover photo? wink D'you even remember all that crap?

wink

I remember my big( and quickly stale) joke about CDs when they came out....

"You can't play them BACKWARDS, so how're we gonna get our "secret message" from SATAN???" shocked crazy

No, I never found the hidden images in the cover photo...I have read comments in the past about there being some but I have no idea? idk

Same with playing records backwards...I think there was a Beatle tune or two I read about, but I can't remember which one(s) it was. Seems like I'm hearing Love is All You Need in my mind right now LOL! cool

It's the right country Bob tune d, and as I said I could no longer call up the real JWH album cuts anymore. But here's the real Deal'an for you:

it just doesn't sound as good as he used to:

cool

bummer: looks like it's been taken down for sharing, so I can't share it now. You can still watch it on YouTube..."I'll Be Your Baby Tonight" Fantastic Rare Live Performance.

Yep. There really aren't many(if ANY) original studio clips of Dylan tunes, unless you're looking for the whole LP, and not just one tune from it. Don't know why, my guess being the lack of ROYALTIES from YT or somethin'..... wink

But, if you know Bob, the "live" version of a tune recorded on video maybe a year ago, and in his case, even if it was YESTERDAY, is FAR DIFFERENT from how it might be done today! wink

(The) Dyl, who makes his $ mostly from catalog sales & covers of his tunes, is zealous abt targeting online posts.
Live stuff's harder to control but that's why so many shows bar recording equipment...a bit trickier these days but some artists now bar phones.
