I also fall into this category. When the Nord Lead first came out almost 25 years ago I was all over it. I bought and sold several keyboards and racks depending on my gig needs, there was no competition at the time. I loved my Electro 2 73 so much I had it modified to add a low "E". I had a Wave, and one of the first C2's in the USA (the dealer hadn't even taken it out of the shipping carton when I pre purchased it and they had no floor model yet at that point). I'm over it, but that's just me.

So former Nord lovers, what is your current love? What did you move on to?

OT now, but to answer your question. Yamaha, Crumar, DSI, amd Moog for me. Also very few people were using VSTi's in the mid 90's when the Nord Lead was released.

One reason I never considered owning a Nord is that I just couldn't picture myself playing a red keyboard in public. As petty and puerile as that sounds to me now, it actually was a factor.

Not sure that the Forum influenced me, I liked the Electro 3 at first, but after a while it seemed like it sounded about the same with different drawbutton settings. And the program selection method didn't work well for me in switching patches.

1. I would not have never given Casio a listen if it wasn’t for this forum. I am now a proud owner.
2. Bought my Hammond SK1 and vent based on the recommendations here and have done hundreds of gigs with it and love it. Along with numerous compliments over the years on how good the organ sounds!!! (One just last week)
3. Huge amount of advice and help from the group over the years. A big THANK YOU to everyone on this forum!

Hmmm.

Still a Nord fan. Sorry, not sorry. Willing to graduate at some point, but for the time being what they do really works for me.

I've got a few other non-Nord boards, but they don't get played much frown

This forum caused me to re-evaluate my stance on bringing my own sound vs. relying on FOH. Eventual outcome: I took charge of FOH sound for 95% of my gigs. If I could make my boards sound good, I could make the band sound good. It was a fun project. Add in lighting, BTW.

Another thing from this forum? The folks here play in a super wide variety of gigs and situations. What works for one doesn't work for another. So I've learned to focus on what works for my particular situation. And not disrespect other situations that are quite different smile

I stopped trying to be the shredding dude a long time ago. Now it's all about tasty stuff -- voicings, solos, comping, tempo, etc. I've learned all these yummy complex chords and cadences. Big fun.

Not thanks to this forum: how to deal with noisy lead guitarists. That I had to figure out on my own.

The "One Truth" I've discovered here? Find a gig you like, then work to morph the band.

Be the change that you seek. And, yes, I'll buy beers for any person on this forum should I ever have the opportunity.

Here a two topics for discussion:

20) 24bit and high sample rates are useless for the final delivery product.

21) No 24bit interface actually exists on the market in terms of the practical dynamic range.

Uhmmm...my home studio is 100% non-Nord.
My gigging rig is 100% Nord (actually only one board, my old faithful Stage 2EX).
In which camp do I fall? grin

Actually, I think this makes sense and is confirmed by what the other "ex-Norders" said. Everybody replaced their Nords with multiple boards, each better than the Nord in one specific task. But you still need to bring 2-3 boards.

This seems to reinforce the idea that Nords are still the best jacks of all trades, masters of none. They don't excel at anything (except maybe acoustic pianos) but as a single do-it-all board for live use, their package of quality, sound, weight, size and reliability is still hard to beat.

Disclaimer: this obviously depends on individual musical style and needs, and doesn't consider workstation or software rigs.

One of the best jazz players in San Diego, and he would fair well in the larger LA area as well. Owns the expensive Nord ( I am not into the model names, sorry, bores me to tears ) - the $4500 Nord..
Well, he recently bought an inexpensive Privia or Casio ( maybe $300 ) and he uses it without complaint.
