I didn't watch, and I don't think any of the musos I know did either. (A lot of them were at a popular weekly jam last night.) Any comments about the Grammies? State of modern popular music? Gossip? Trash talk? Inquiring minds want to know ...

what's a Grammies? idk

A reason why I collect old keyboards is that I feel partly responsible for doing it, responsible for preserving history and being a custodian for these things
Plus, old gear has a story. I like that.

My mother texted me to let me know that Janelle Mona killed it and that they should've let Dolly sing alone, but also that she sounds old. snax

I was working on stuff with my band. idk

Happy for Kacey and Donald, though.

Alicia Keys played the beginning of Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag on two pianos, a little under tempo. . .

It was on in the background, but I didn't catch any performances like ones from Bruno Mars or Beyonc's a few years ago to make me sit up and pay attention.

I even missed two of this Grammy's biggest moments: Drake getting cut off mid-speech, and Michele Obama. So mostly it was just kind of droning away.

I'm happy Brandi Carlile came home with 3, but she's my favorite vocalist on the planet and I would have loved to see her take home Album of the Year. I had been hoping she was going to work with Dave Cobb for a while, it seemed like a natural pairing and he's probably my favorite current producer. The album is great, but I can understand why it didn't win, it really doesn't have as much mainstream appeal as Kacey's. The nomination itself is still awesome, and she absolutely killed her live performance, which really is what matters. Her albums are great, but I've always felt she sounds far better in front of an audience, and I'm glad she got a really really big one.

My Grammie passed away when I was in high school, around 32 years ago. I miss the meals at her house (and some of the toys). Drove by recently and couldn't believe how tremendously small that house was! Seemed big to me at the time. So here's to Grammies!

I knew someone was going to bring up their Grammy.

I guess it wasn't a very memorable show.

AFAIK, she didn't put on much of a show. She was living in an assisted living facility at the time.

My wife watched, and I was subjected.

Janelle was channeling Prince.

Cardi B was dressed like a tulip and thought the flowers sent to her came from Tom Petty.

They did another Motown salute that was not as tepid as some I've seen. J Lo didn't really embarrass herself.

Anthony Kiedis sang horribly sharp.

Dolly was a little short of breath by the end, but the first two singers out there with her couldn't even hit the notes. Miley did a bang up job on Jolene tho.

etc.

Every year, I think Im not going to watch, then I do and wonder why I did. Its like rubbernecking a car accident.

That said, my top 3 performances:
3. St Vincent & Dua Lipa
2. Janelle Monae
1. Brandi Carlile

I wasnt familiar with Carliles music, only knew her by name. This was amazing.

My GF introduced me the Brandi Carlile Band a few years ago. Nice to see them getting some recognition, but Im afraid the days of seeing them in smaller venues are gone. As good as the records are, they just kill it live.

I didnt see the Grammies, but it sounds as though they stole the show.

I did like that - very Prince like. I do hope her guitar was live. There was a cable, going to a remote transmitter, but could have been just for show.

The Grammys haven't been on my radar in many years now. However, I heard on the news that it was a smashing success especially for women.

I'm glad Dolly Parton is still with us. If TV makes people look bigger, she needs to be rushed by ambulance to the nearest Golden Corral. She is pencil lead thin. laughcool

Gee Mate, you did quite a bit of watching for someone who was subjected to it.....

Here you go, best vid I could find out there. She performs the "A" section of the piece. Not a bad tempo but it's usually performed faster, mostly too fast!

Notice she stayed away from the last movement which is the toughest on that piece. I like her but her music isn't that memorable. She seems like a cool girl though.

What is with all the effeminate guys in the audience? Nothing even the proposed Rock music had an edge except maybe the Chili Peppers? My girl keyboard player got a free ticket to go to the Grammy awards as her friend in college got a nomination but it was for part of the show that isn't shown live but still I think it's cool. She flew back from LA last night. I wonder what she has to say about it.

I can't remember if I ever watched any award show. I have no interest in them.

I avoid award shows, way too pretentious. I would much rather watch a show like Austin City Limits or Live at Daryl's House.

Supposedly Greta Van Fleet won best rock something, but I missed that part. Don't know if they performed.
