ETA: Typically, even if a board has both USB connections, the host connection is only for a flash drive.

Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our new video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out!

No, you canít connect from USB TO HOST to USB TO DEVICE. It would be really nice if you couldó but, alas, no.

Perhaps Iím misunderstanding the topics discussed but I can assure you I can go in and out USB, or mix them with 8 x MIDIPorts to configure my needs any way I want.
I run multiple editors, or just use an iPad + PC for 2 separate editors, or any combination on offer.

MIDI In USB out, USB In MIDI Out, USB In USB Out, MIDI In MIDI Out, and multiple flash drives too.

Perhaps the K4 is an exception to the rule.
I couldnít do without either of them, thatís for sure.

Right, we've been assuming the OP wants to connect the two keyboards directly. If you're willing to depend on a laptop or something, then you can route MIDI pretty much however you want.

I have tried to use my wife's Casio Privia 160 as a controller board, but it only has USB MIDI. I wanted to use it to play sounds off my Kurzweil PC3.

I assumed the only way to do this is to use a laptop as a MIDI bridge. Casio to laptop (via USB cable), and then laptop to PC3 via a USB/5-pin MIDI adapter.

That worked, but what a pain. Might as well just use VSTs on the laptop.

I presume from one of the comments above, that Kenton makes a little box just for this purpose?

What a pain. Couldn't they have just kept 5-pin MIDI on these newer digital pianos?

The Answer here folks Iím getting ...if your keyboard
Ie Casio has USB out only and you want to midi another keyboard
Without computer intervention...,you go out and buy a
Kenton USB/Midi host which will allow you to converse
With 2 keyboards

I have Kurzweil USB out only and want to control my Roland VK
8M organ module or my Yamaha MX 61 with the Kurzweil
Or control my Kurzweil with my Korg Krome

Kenton should do the trick

Yes, Kenton, or any of the others I linked to in the thread I referenced above.

Manufacturers can pretend they donít need 5 Pin MIDI, but itís just a convenient cost cutting measure.
We should be grateful mLan was never adopted.
