Brainstorming to buy/create my own "Wakeman cape/cloak". The video game cover band I've been playing in, now starting to get some serious gigs, is gearing up to do some costumes. I figure since Wakeman is pretty much a final fantasy wizard to begin with, I could come up with a fun hybrid. My mother has made me Zowinul Hats that I've worn to gigs off an on of the past 20 years since high school, but I figure it would be fun to have some Wakeman flare too. I think I'll go for more of a subdued dark blue velvet look, maybe with a flashy collar... not crazy about the gold sequined version.

Maybe I'm still in Halloween mode, but I'm a sucker for costumes and theme gigs!

Bro, if you're going to be a bear, be a grizzly.

Gold sequins all the way. This is not the occasion to play to subtlety.

Line the inside with a light colored satin.

Go crazy with a Nature Boy Ric "WOOOOOO!" Flair sequin, feather, hell, real fur, drape...cross-genre. Now THAT would be something to see.

Ric(k) Flairman!

Ric(k) Wakeflair!

WOOOOO!

I always joke with my friends that if I bring more than 3 keyboards to a gig, I'll have to wear a cape - its the law.

If anyone finds a good place to buy a cape like that I'd love to know about it!

Most importantly, tell us more about this video game cover band. Perhaps even on the “Shameless Plugs” or “Let’s Hear It!” threads.

Remember, it’s dangerous to go alone.

Also, you need the physique du role. I saw rick this summer and he's HUGE, a hulk of a man probably around 2 mts tall and not lightly built. I dare anyone to laugh in his face about his outfits...or about anything really wink

He's about 6'3", but unfortunately has put on a lot of weight. When I saw ARW he was wearing what looked like dark blue medical scrubs underneath his cape.

Oh, I'm going to go all out, however, I would say "pish posh" is more my style than sparkly flamboyant (says the guy who dressed in 4" heals and fishnets for halloween), so I DO WHAT I WANT! Fine velvet, shiny silk lining, big old fancy frog. Maybe a shoulder crest. Rick's been wearing velvet more recently, with a sparkly shoulder thing, and it looks fantabulous!

Will post video game cover videos soon. Our last gig the video turned out AWFUL, all backlit and just didn't do well on video. We've got one tonight but it's also in a backlit space, so not likely to be good vid. We've got the sound, but the visual just isn't doing us justice yet. Next month we're opening for a TSO music show a really badass venue, so we should get something good there!

Wakeman capes are so 1967.

I prefer a Leon Russell hat

"If Emerson's persists for over 48 hours, please contact your doctor."

I can't take credit for that. The first time I posted that shot, one of my friends said that, and I've been giggling internally ever since!

*This*. Don’t make mom run all the way down the court just so you can lay up. Go big, this calls for a glorious sky dunk ...

Wakeman started wearing a cape to hide his awkward moves while playing his multi-Keyboard set up. He bought his first cape for $200 from a local radio DJ who was wearing it when introducing Yes in Hartford, CT. Yes' light man then introduced Rick to a lady who made him a silver sequined cape. Wakeman still has that cape and several others. Unfortunately, he lost the Journey to the Centre of the Earth cape.

Hell yeah, go all out.

Also, VG cover bands are exploding, yeah? I have friends who play in two bands in town, and another who organizes an annual VG Orchestra for the local Animethon. I'm not a huge gamer, never have been, but it's a cool scene. People who love it really love it.
