Hi. Does anyone know of a good source to purchase a piano transcription for Let It Rain by Derek and the Dominos? I'm trying to learn the piano part in the intro. All of the sheet music online seems to just follow the vocal melody rather than the actual piano part.

Here's the studio recording:

Thanks.

I used to do this one. Slow it down and listen, you will get it. It's descending 'arpeggiated' thirds in A major with the flat 7th (mixolydian). Just find your starting notes. Learn it this way and there's nothing to really memorize - you will know the part in 5 minutes, for good.

The fingering might be the bigger challenge for you. In fact, I would not be surprised to learn that he did it with his two middle fingers - they were all pretty effing high making this recording, and he was no Franz Lizst.

I play/played in a Clapton Tribute band. I did a very fast chromatic down.

I'm pretty sure it is the way I described. I'm not at a piano now, but I believe it's 1/8 notes, the first one started on G-B-F#-A-E-G-D-F#-etc., starting on the 'and' of 1 and going until the downbeat of the next measure,
next one started a whole step highter on A-C#-G-B-etc.,
and the third one started above that on D-F#-C#-E-etc.

I also did a Clapton tribute, so much good music to choose from! The Derek & the Dominos stuff was the best, we probably did half the album.

Click on the gear icon on the YouTube video, select Speed, then 0.5. It's as clear as day, and is most decidedly not chromatic, nor quite what anyone else has suggested so far, although Bobby is closest to the mark. smile

Yes, not exactly what I said - though I'll bet you that's what he was aiming for. laugh

The end of this song, the A-G vamp, is great for a soaring Hammond solo! rawk thu

Thanks to everyone for your tips. I was pulled away from this for a while but got back to it and it wasnt too hard. I've got it close enough and it sounds fine.

Now its time to work on the soaring Hammond solo!
