Saw this about 10 minutes before posting this...

Apparently, the "Pawn Stars" dudes bought Vic's '61 white Strat for 55 gs.

I'm finding other links, dated 2013? Old news, at best . . .

Have to admit, I'd never heard of the guy(?) until I saw this, but for argument's sake, I wouldn't buy one of Clapton's Strats for $55,000, or even $15,000. No slam on EC, I just really can't imagine paying that much for a Guitar. If I could really afford to spend $55,000 on just one Guitar, I still wouldn't buy just one Guitar with that money.

I would spend $5,000 for the guitar, $5,000 for the amp, and still have $45,000 to buy a car to tote them around town with! cool

I could not get the link to come up either.

I understand rich collectors or investors in purchasing a famous musicians guitar for profit in the future.

I never heard of Vic Flick before, and even if I was wealthy, I would not spend 55 grand on any instrument, for any reason, no matter who owned it.

I think we've discussed on here how nothing on that show is real.

Never heard of the guy. A guitar belonging to a session player who is a non-celebrity has no real value beyond the normal 1961 vintage aspect.

Well, I've heard of Vic, but no big deal much beyond playing the guitar run on the early 007 movies. And for me, that's not enough to induce me to pay $55,000+ for his guitar. And besides,

I'd rather have the axe used by HOWARD ROBERTS when he played that iconic TWILIGHT ZONE opening. But STILL, I wouldn't cough up 55k.

I also don't think everything on that show is necessarily FAKE, but I don't believe it's all as spontaneous as it's made to look.

I've heard of Vic Flick. I know what he played. I wouldn't pay any more for his guitar than I would for another just like it.

Yeah, on another show, some guy came in with an old '65 Danelectro "Longhorn" bass which according to provenance, WAS once owned by JOHN ENTWISTLE, but because( as the shop guy said) it couldn't be proven that Entwistle ever played it on stage or used it in a known recording, he was only willing to give the guy what it would ordinarily be worth. And besides.....

I'm wiling to guess who PT is, but have NO idea as to the identity of KR. wink DAMN this curse of always using full sentences and proper English! frown

What---like "wiling to guess" ? hand grin
Most pop/rock-oriented players (& that's mostly who's here) would know the diff between Keef Richards & Kevin Rowland.
Context, context, CONTEXT !
It's the 21st C, & language shant be a'languishing in the backwash of Strunk & White forever.

We now return y' to the debate of....barkin' at a bargain.

Heh. Well, I'm not sure who "KEEF" Richards is, but if you mean KEITH Richards, I never really thought of HIM as strictly a "Rock rhythm" guitar player. I thought first JONES and then WOOD had that area covered. wink I mean, since the inception of The Stones, Richards had, by most, been ALWAYS considered the lead.

I can`t access it either-but speaking for the vast majority of humanity...who?
That`s not to belittle Mr. Flick`s accomplishments. But the idea of, `this guitar was played on the theme music of `The Beverly Hillbillies` and so it`s $25,000-but just because I like your face`. Like, give me a break. Do I look like the word `FOOL` is stamped on my forehead?

Well, since both words start with an "F", I'd say "Fan" and "Fool" often go hand in hand. And some people do things you or I might not do, and they do them for the dumbest reasons. one example....

One guy I worked with was CRAZY about "The Cher Show" on TV. it came about after her and Sonny broke up and THEIR show ended it's run. I watched the first one and decided that for me, it wasn't good enough for me to keep tuning in. But HIS reason for watching it WASN'T that he thought the SHOW was any good or not, but that he thought Cher was, "The finest looking bitch on TV!" rolleyes

I too, have known guys to buy LPs and later CDs for the same "reason". Not that the girl who's album it was SANG good or not, or that the SONGS on it were any good, but because she was "fine". grin

Did you by chance check their foreheads? laugh
On the other hand, they are the kind of customers
every advertiser wants-hire a babe to advertise and they`ll walk home with
a 50 lb. bag of fish tank gravel-then remember they have neither fish nor a fish tank.
For once, I totally agree with your quotation marks-around the word "reason".

"Check their foreheads?" grin

Well, they weren't narrow nor sloped back, but I getcha. wink

Advertising's a transparent game----Whatever a "Babe" won't sell, a BABY will.
