I have a question for anyone who knows; I look at the members of the Young Rascals band from the 60's, and I see these wonderfully ethnic Italian names, Felix Cavaliere, Eddie Brigatti, Dino Danelli... and Gene Cornish?
How did that guy ever wind up as part of that crew?

Probably changed it from Corniccio to Cornish when the family landed at Ellis Island.

Could’ve been changed for business purposes, too, before joining the band.

Hmmm...Geno Corniccio, then?

Seems as though Cornish is his original name.

Keep in mind the NY areas full of folks of all kinda bgs & there's tight tribalism but also expansive cultural mixing.
America's mixing-pot-luck-dinner & all....plus he's from The Great White North.

If he could play, he could play, why care what his ethnicity is. I guess the rest of the Young Rascals did not seem to give a rip. cheers

Well, thanks to the info d provided, it seemed him, Felix and Eddie all met while they were in JOEY DEE's band The Starlighters. So, where he GREW UP was of no consequence.

Before he started wishin' he was a Beetle GC was already in show biz....

But having The Brit Boys as models did up his game.
Dig Gene's gtr trix [bar-band-soul-solo = 2:10~3:35] & Danelli's Keith Moon-isms [throughout but esp at the climax 3:10~end].

I never thought of Gene as a "high-level" guitarist, but always did dig those BARNEY KESSEL axes he played!

But, ATT, we all thought it was such a "cool" band, so of course it made him a cool guitar player! wink

A good friend of mine, an Italian named Pat Dodson, said he figured the record company thought the band needed a guitarist, and they got him from the union.

Well, now you can tell him the union had nothing to do with it. Gene was a "founding" member with Felix, Eddie and Dino. wink
