Now one of my favorite artists. Great raw bluegrass/country. Check out the great crunch on guitar solos.

It's interesting that Chris Stapleton is categorized as Americana. He did begin with The Steeldrivers -

His music includes various guitar accompaniments.

Here he is on SNL playing a Jazzmaster, his lead man on a Tele and another guy on an acoustic...looks and sounds like an outlaw country band to me:

Sorry I missed that one. I normally avoid all of those types of shows. But this would have been one segment I'd love to see.

While I know what might make you avoid those shows, is this not a lesson to reconsider habits ?

Then there's

Slide solo (JIm Stewart rawk ), delivered in a great but decidedly non-BBK style = [1:35~2:15] / Gtr solo (Ron Bowman) = [2:15~2:55] / Stapleton solo + more slide = [3:30~4:55 ]
Note how those cats are actually working off the lines played by each other, not just wailing.

Posted preciously but seemingly apropos here is a clip of PRN whipping out some sincere country gtr, a style I've never heard from him elsewhere (although "purple Rain" has some nods to country music.
He keeps the countryish stuff going right up til he gets to the solo, where he flips back all rockalizer...would that he'd continued.
Dig esp the licks at [0:45~0:52], [0:58~1:00], [1:15~1:32] & [3:14~3:20].
Could anybody be more C&W right there right then ?!

Well, I just found them & dragged 'em home...I think it's worthwhile sometimes to note the person who filmed or presented vids on YT or other sites.
Some of them are truly artists in their own right.

Here's another unlikely country guitarist...or 2 actually since the pedal steel duet was played by Derringer, not JDW3.

Some bg....
1st 2 have negligible gtr content / 3rd rips !
1957 orig

1959 cover (another Hazelwood production w/some Duane Eddy reverb hints)

1961 cover / this one's full of mewling cat gtr licks throughout / also note the long hammered line [@ 0:45~0:50] & the pinch harmonic followed by steelish volume swell[1:32~1:37]] / unfortunately, player unidentified

side note: in checking this tune out I've seen it credited to at least 3 diff writers.
