I was just watching a daytime courtroom tv show in which one of the people on the show said the words "killer chicken". I thought Killer Chicken would be a great name for a band. If any of you are looking for a new name, or know someone who is looking for a new name, think about Killer Chicken.

Humorist DAVE BARRY would often joke that some innocuous phrase would make"a good name for a rock band".

I often think that too when hearing(or reading) something otherwise mundane. For instance----

I recently read this in an article about all that e-coli laced lettuce( and a band with this name could be on a bill with "Killer Chicken"):

"Rancid Romaine" wink

I just found out there is a band in my area called "What's Her Name and The Stuff". What stuff were they on when they chose that? Definitely a cover band, as there's not much imagination used there.

I’m enjoying the other thread, to be sure.

I’ve got a few of my own, covering many genres, like punk, prog, pop, etc. Some, I’m certain I can’t share here. wink

Some years ago, someone on another board posted this game:

Quote:
1 - Go to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Random Quotations: www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

If you want to do this again, you'll hit to hit refresh to generate new quotes, because clicking the quotes link again will just give you the same quotes over and over again.

3 - Go to flickr's "explore the last seven days" http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

Put it all together, that's your debut album.

Results there

Yeah. Some band names are created out of humor and guys just kidding around, and some are seriously wrought over. It's funny how in some cases, the name a band chooses can make or break 'em, regardless of the music they play( and how well). Think about it...

How many times in ANY of Y'ALL'S lifetimes did you ever NOT bother to listen to some band because you didn't take to the NAME of it?

I'll admit to having done that on a few occasions. But it WAS long ago enough that I'll be damned if I can remember which bands they were! And, as I said before when this kind of thing was discussed, back when I was in a band, we usually changed the name on a monthly basis. I'd say out of the dozen or so names my band had over it's short life, MY favorites were...

SKIDMARK

MAGIC LAMP

ELECTRIC HEAT

Rumpled Foreskin

wink

+1 Fang, I played with some gigs with some of my old band buds and we changed the name to protect the innocent like on Dragnet LOL!

the names were X-ray Buddha and The Lizard People, The Usual Suspects (which came from "round up the usual suspects" in the Casa Blanca movie). Before the video game came out we also used Larry and the Lounge Lizards or just the Lounge Lizards. When asked what's the name of the band, we would say anything you wish to call us! Oh yeah, I just remembered The Herpnodes LOL! cool

A couple of times, sorta.

In each case, the names made me think I needed to find out more. In one case- Dill Doe and the Four Skins- I knew some people who had seen them and said don’t bother.

In another case, it was a neonazi skinhead band. That show could have been fatal for me, sooooo...

I also know of a punk band in Australia, fronted by one of my online buddies- SlydeKrieg. They’ve been accused of nazism because of “Krieg” in their name and the font they use for the name/logo. But they’re not. The guy whose band it is plays killer slide punk guitar- hence “Slyde”- punk is confrontational- hence the German word for war (Krieg”)- and 2/3 of their original lineup were of Germanic descent, hence the (also confrontational) SS font.

This...attempt...at covering RatM’s “Killing in the name of” ran into a little language barrier. About 3 minutes in, he mangles a line, resulting in the band name:

Toppin' that, the last active ongoing band I was in was called Half Chicken To Go, named for when we did an early gig at Shorty's BBQ in AusTex but also invoking the notion of reluctance to step out.
Opened up all sortsa sloganality: "Funky butt chic", etc.

I think I mentioned this before, but here goes....

I once was somewhere in which the band was all over the place genre-wise and chronologically. From old '50's rock'n'roll, to '90's "Grunge" and everything in between. I worked my way to their small playing area and looked at the little sign they had put up informing the crowd the band's name was SHUFFLE MODE! laugh

I thought that was pretty clever. wink

"MIRROR MIRROR".( which would have been a good name for an '80's "metal" band, most of which looked and sounded like all the others at the time. wink )

I might have explained this before, I dunno....but here goes...

Back in the late '60's there were TV commercials for a cold remedy medicine that called one of the issues/symptoms as "post nasal drip". During that time, a band member's older brother( the drummer's) was recently a new Father. He facetiously called that 6 or so week menstrual flow that women went through following childbirth as "Post NATAL drip"! grin A name our band adopted for a few weeks. wink Just cuz we thought it was funny.
