OK...Happy Birthday to...

Recommended Posts

Although I know it's supposed to be impolite to reveal a lady's age, I'll mention that today,

KIM GORDON of Sonic Youth turns 65.

It's not often that I get the honor and privilege of mentioning the birthday of a female guitarist. And I wish her a good one and many more.

Happy Birthday to Otis, Klaus and Tommy! :thu:

And a Special Happy Birthday to Willie Nelson one of the Kings of Outlaw Country! At 85 he's putting out a new album. Here's a cut of Last Man Standing which is a tune I'm really enjoying these days:

That's a good 'un Larry. But most of us long time Seger fans( goin' back to mid '60's) would choose a much older one. For instance, with so many to choose from, both "Lucifer"('70) and "Persecution Smith"('66) are fighting for the top spot with me. ;) Only wish I could post 'em. :( Oh, and also, being as I am from Lincoln Park, MI, I (and most LP guys) have a soft spot for "Back In '72". You'd have to listen closely to figure out why. ;)

So, getting back---

Today, Rockabiily picker BILLY BURNETTE( Johnny's nephew) is 65;

and

JOE BONNAMASSA is 41.

Happy Birthday to Billy and Joe! :cool:

ps. I didn't really hear Seger's stuff until about '75, when he became more famous with his Silver Bullet band. He had a lot of great hits and is a great singer-songwriter. :cool:

Sure, we here in MI agree it took WAY too long for the rest of the U.S. to catch up with Bob. You can still access YouTube, so go check out some of that early stuff. A HUGE hit(two actually) in the '60's was one called "2+2", and another was "Ramblin', Gamblin' Man".

A 3rd from that era would be '67's "Heavy Music" pts 1 and 2 , which did sort of become his "signature" song. ;)

Meantime:

Today STEVE KATZ turns 73;

PAUL HEATON of The Housemartins is 56;

and

PIERRE BOUVIER of Simple Plan is 39.

I went back and listened to 2+2, Ramblin and Heavy Music 1 and 2 with the Heard. I pretty much like Bob's later stuff like Old Time Rock and Roll, Night Moves, Still the Same, Turn the Page, etc., with the Silver Bullet Band...meantime:

Happy Birthday to Steve, Paul and Pierre! :thu:

Yeah, well, some of those I suggested were with "The Last Heard" and others with "The Bob Seger System". He did a single some years later('71) "Lookin' Back" with Teegarden and Van Winkle. But we here(as I mentioned somewhere earlier) in Lincoln Park, MI, due to the misinformation that he was born here, and the fact that he went to the high school here for a semester, take a sort of pride in his sardonic reference to the town in "Back In '72". :D You'd have to give it a close listen to get what I mean. ;)

But to press on........

Today sees both DAVE MASON(Traffic)

and

Long time favorite DONOVAN(Leitch) reaching 72!

Well, the only TRAFFIC album I have is one without Dave, so I'll just have to listen to Donovan's "Greatest Hits" a few times today. ;)

That's funny, I came up with a name for my last band "Lookin Back" without even knowing there was a song LOL!

Happy Birthday to Dave Mason!

and a Special Happy Birthday to Donovan P. Leitch! I grew up on his tunes and started playing his tunes back in High School. I saw him live in Vancouver Canada back in '69. He put on a great show!

Yeah, you are about a year older than me, so I was still in Jr. high when I rushed to my favorite record store to buy the "Catch The Wind", "Colours" and "Turquoise" 45s when they came out. ;)

Anyway.....

STEVE WINWOOD hits 70 today;

with

BILLY SQUIER reaching 68;

and

BILLY DUFFY of The Cult hitting 57.
