There is not too much different features with respect to the 5, for my purposes. Of course 3 part multitimbral is nice for who ever needs it, but for me the electro will probably never serve as a multitimbral (=multifunctional) board...

3pt multitimbral
Flexible split points
Better polyphony on the pianos
Seamless transitions. like

No velocity layers on sample synth.
No synth engine from old Stage.
Price?

Probably no go for me. But they are getting closer.

Nice specs, but not enough for me to get rid of my Electro 5D.

It's interesting if there's a change/improvement in the organ section. Specs don't make this clear. A (much) more defined and tight LFs would be just fine - the main reason I returned E5 and brought back my old and trusty E3 (in spite of all other bells and whistles)..Also, I did miss the old and super smooth pots found on Electros before introducing E5 (or should I say NS2ex).

Didn't see this coming. I expected either a new synth (Lead 5, Wave 2), a new organ (the C2D is starting to be quite old), or nothing as they've been working so hard on the Stage3.

Anyway. Nice trickle-down of features from the Stage 3, but an incremental upgrade, not a revolution. This is typical of Clavia: the big changes come every two generations, the "intermediate" models only have limited upgrades.

Didn't really expect that. Still on the fence over the Stage 3. 6 may be a nice leap up from the 4.

EDIT: I understand why they don't put a mod wheel and pitch bend on it. I get that. But a cutoff and resonance knob would add the world of difference to the synth section.

I think it's more about clean, as in overdrive free with the Leslie effect on that people complain about, not the leakage settings.

With my E5 if I turn the drive all the way down it's pretty clean even if you floor the expression pedal. If there is any overdrive it's negligible, and if you set up your gain structure right you should need to run the expression pedal wide open all the time anyway.

Ironically enough, I just ordered an Electro 5D 73 for a really good price this morning just minutes before I saw this new Electro 6 pop up on KC.

Based on the 6D's description, its improved features (e.g. 3 part multitimbral, improved split flexibility, filters, etc.) vs. the 5D are not enough to give me regrets at this point. I plan to use the 5D as a portable one board solution when I don't want to haul two boards for the basic meat & potatoes sounds (AP, EP, B3, clav) I use in the blues and soul bands I play with.

The next issue I'm faced with is what boards to unload.... I've accumulated too many and some of them (e.g Hammond SK2, Numa Stage Piano, Acuna 73) I don't use enough to justify keeping them.

Yes Dan the overdrive is minimal at 0 on the organ very little grit. Not worth trading for me either.

Personally, while it's all nice, the biggest temptation I'd have from the NE5D is the seamless sound transitions. Of course, more sample memory is nice. 3-part multi-timbral is more interesting on paper than in real life... the 2-way limitation to me was that one of the two had to be a piano or organ. 3-way where one has to be a piano and another has to be an organ doesn't really add much usability, to me. Maybe not much reason to trade up from a 5, but for someone buying "cold," sure, it's got some more appeal.

To some extent, it's kind of the same issue as a mod wheel. They'd probably also have to add a bunch of underlying "stuff" to make those knobs do what you're thinking of.

A significant drop in the price of the 5D's still in the pipeline will get my attention for sure.

The other change of interest could be compatibility with the new sample format they introduced with the NS3.

Some of the nice bits from the Stage 3 are finding their way to the NE6. That's all good, as they're useful features.

But the NS3 still has plenty of differentiation. Like 2GB of piano memory vs. 512MB, among other features.

As compared to a Nord Electro 5? Agreed, not enough to make most want to upgrade. But compared to my trusty Nord Electro 4? Yuuuuge upgrade. If I hadn't take the plunge on the NS3, the NE6 would be compelling.

And, yes, I would expect to see some sharp discounting on NE5s still in the distribution pipeline. If you've been on the fence, this should help push you over.

I had the NE5D for a bit and was using it as backup to my NS2. There were features that I was so dependent upon with the NS2 that I ultimately swapped out for another NS2.

I'd have to see if the NE6 fills a void that could make it a more worthwhile backup board, but I'd more likely spring for the NS3 as my next Nord. I'm a bit of an edge case in terms of my Nord consumption.

The Nords hold their value really well so I am guessing the Nord E6 will be higher priced than the Nord E5D. I wouldn't expect much of a discounted price for the NE6 for awhile IMHO. I would expect to see a little drop in price of N5D but not really that much.

As much as the new features of the NE6 such as seamless transitions and increased split functionality are enticing, I can understand current NE5 owners staying put and resisting the temptation to upgrade. I am little disappointed in this regard as I was hoping that a number of NE5 s would turn up in the second hand market with deeper discounts, but based on the comments on this thread this is less likely to happen.

Nords hold value so well I wouldn't expect any significant change in prices (new or used) of the 5 series - about all we'll see is a few more units for sale than usual. IMHO.

And while this is blasphemy to say during NAMM, I'm reminded all over again that as inspiring as it may be to have a killer axe with killer speakers to play killer programs - no new machine I buy is going to make me sound killer unless I've practiced my ass off to become a killer player.

And a killer player with old tired gear is still going to sound like a killer player.

Just sayin' - and while I've been tempted more than once, I don't own any version of an Electro - just an old Wave.

Seems like new models of the Electro are coming faster and faster. The 6 does seem like it is now viable to sit it on top of a hammer action controller and play piano and organ at the same time.

Nothing official, AFAIK. But, given the quantity of Nord Stage 3 goodies showing up in the NE6 (including two new pipe organ models), it's pretty safe to say it's the new NS3 organ engine made the trip as well.

Early owners of the NS3 had to endure multiple software revisions before things were made "right". Now, most owners consider it an improvement, with a few folks still unhappy. As you'd expect.

Me? Once I got it dialed in, I could hear small improvements to both the organ engine and the Leslie sim as compared to NS2 and NE4.

Nothing earth-shattering, just closer to an ideal.

Well, guess who ordered a 5D-73 which is arriving tomorrow morning cry

Actually, I'm not too unhappy about it. The 5D does what I need it to do now I have a number of rehearsals and support gigs coming up where I need a basic palette of decent 'bread and butter' sounds in one board. The arrival of the 6 doesn't really change that, and I need the keyboard now, not in two months or whenever.

However, maybe I'll eventually get a 6HP to go with it that would be a pretty killer all-red combo...

Also, just a small point, but the 5 already has the 'organize' function that is not new on 6.
