This Saturday, January 20, PBS will be presenting a Herbie Hancock concert at 11 pm CST. On Monday, January 29, they will present a Moody Blues concert at 9 pm CST. This is part of the program material that keeps me subscribing. They recently presented a David Gilmour concert and it was interesting to contrast that with some of Roger Water's shows. Anyway, mark your choice of calendar, if interested. I got to see Herbie live during the Headhunters period. Holy ARP, that left a good mark. thu

Sadly, it appears that our NC PBS station (UNC TV) is not showing the Moody Blues concert. While searching, got comment that PBS is only showing this in areas within a certain distance of places where they will be playing. (don't know the veracity of that last statement).

I was impressed by the keys overall. Herbie played a Fazioli grand and Korg Kronos, ending the show with a Roland AX-7. His sax player was using a Moog Voyager and (seemingly) a non-Kronos Korg underneath a Roland VP-770. I couldn't see it clearly. The 770 is a sweet deal because its Vocal Designer section takes it far beyond the usual vocoders. He and Herbie both did some nice work through headphone mics. BTW, legendary drummer Vinnie Colaiuta was part of the group, which was an added treat. I got a nice lift from the whole thing. Glad to pass it along, always open to a similar heads-up.

Here's an outtake (didn't make broadcast) of Herbie and band playing "Actual Proof"

The entire episode can be streamed here (location restrictions might apply).
