Fascinating comments all round. cool

Yeah I get "keys guy" or "on keys" a lot too, which sounds natural.

It's all good. I love when somebody hasn't thought about it ... "on piano, I mean on organ .... I mean that stuff ..." grin

BL introduces me a “Chris on keys” or “Chris on keyboards” capitalizing on the alliteration thing.

When I first started playing out (1980) I used just a Fender Rhodes, and it bugged the shit out of me when I was referred to as the “organist.” It probably wouldn’t have bothered me if I really knew how to play organ. laugh

I'm "on keys" or "on keyboard."

The drummer in my main band sometimes likes to be called "drummist." He says that if a percussion player is a percussionist, then he plays drums so he's a drummist.

If a keyboard player is a keyboarder, then a guitar player is a guitarer.

I double on sax. I'm not a saxer, I'm on sax.

I had never heard any keyboardist, pianist, organi player, synthesis, or other keys-related musician ever called a keyboarder until this thread.

I had one little wanker call me a poser while I set up a mere 2 synths on a stand. I did an especially crowd-pleasing solo set, so when I spotted him afterwards, I said "How'd ya like my posing, monkey boy?" I played some decent rock piano and big fat orchestral-aroma pieces, but also a few half-sequenced and semi-funny synth works. A girl in a small group asked me what I called what I did. I said "Using Art and hard work to get laid more and avoid prison." It got a laugh, but its still true. KORGS & NORDS: MEASURABLY SUPERIOR TO RUNNING HEROIN OR A SLAVE RING.

One person I play for regularly introduces me as 'on Hammond and keys'. Even though I only have two keyboards on stage anyway.

If I ever use that word I pronounce it Pee - ANNE - ist for that very reason.
I've always preferred "piano player" anyway. I also like "Keyboard Player" better than "Keyboardist." OOO

Always been "Keyboard Player", never anything else in my 27 years of gigging.

Although I did have a singer who liked to crack jokes on stage. He used to introduce me and say "He's pretty good on the piano, but he sucks on the organ"....of course organ having another meaning in that context. A bit juvenile, but amusing for a group in their 20s at the time.
