Figured I would post this here. As I document in the Clam Chowder thread, I got a text from a singer I play for asking if I could play the piano from the Sam Smith version of "How Will I Know" for a video she was making. The vid of that version is easily found (and maybe best avoided!) on youtube. Vid shoot was later that week.

Initially I actually thought I might be stunt hands for her to sing over that piano part, so I learned his part, but also knew we might be live. It turned out we were live.

Showed up and we played through twice so she could run the lyrics and we could catch a mutual "vibe." Her preference was a more "pining" approach and tempo (slower) than the Smith version. I found the constant harmonic repetition of the Smith version excruciating, so I changed it a bit as we ran through. Minor stuff, but it neatened things up a bit IMO.

Then we did three live takes straight through. I played on a real piano four feet from where she sang, so no C&Ping. In fact, it's subtle, but you might be able to hear me waiting to see if she going to sing a verse or a chorus through the second half of the song (her doubled first chorus was a "mistake" in theory, but it all worked out fine).

She sang the first one best and I played the last one best, so the one she released--Take 1--was not my favorite for me. But it's still fine.

I don't think I can embed a FB video, so here is the link.

This is more of a "can you believe it"-slash-brag, than a plug, but: this vid now has HALF A MILLION views. Safe to say that's the most of any vid I've ever been on. Crazy.
