I'd just LOVE it if all the same folks who joined in the discussions here in 2017 were still with us in 2018.

Y'all do your best to help make that happen. PLEASE don't let us have any RIP threads dedicated to a forum member who was careless this New Year's Eve. And also, don't add any MUG SHOTS to all the OTHER shots y'all might partake tonight either. wink

Our usual New Year's outing is to go see the Christmas Trees down by the White House and the Capitol, early in the evening, but this year, it's cold enough that we may just stay home. Yeah, big excitement . . .

Whatever you do, have fun, and be safe! Happy New Year to all!

I'm attending a party literally across the street from me, so I'm guessing they won't have to call a cab for me.

The wife and I are lightweight drinkers, so she may have one or two shots of tequila and I will have a few glasses of wine, not hard drunk stuff, slightly feeling it is my method, and then keep myself there with a little specialty brownie and a little bit of wine every once in a while.

Anyways I will get a good meal outta the evening, a few light drinks, a little specialty brownie and go home when the festivities are over. No danger for me or anyone else on the trip home. I live in a gated retirement community every one is in bed by 8:00 PM.

Everyone stay safe and have a great time. See you back here next year. cheers

Well, I made it. Unscathed and not hungover, spent last night watching a few of the Thin Man movies TCM was showing last night.

I quit tuning in to those "New Year's Rockin' Eve" programs since they featured acts I either never listened to nor ever heard of. Nobody in my family wound up with plans to go anywhere, so I know they're all OK. I hope it's the same for y'all. My hope is that the worst that happened for any of you guys is that you're left with trying to read this without too much of a struggle. wink

I still have my miserable cold but at least I don't have a hangover to go with it! Watched the ball drop on TV in NYC and had a shot of whiskey. That was my whole celebration. I cheated this year as it was 9pm our time out here in California LOL! I played around with my guitars and then hit the bed by 11pm...dull, but safe and warm this 1st morning of 2018! Hope all you guys and gals are as warm as you can be and had a great time last night! cool

Happy New Year my friends, I wish all of you great health, happiness, and prosperity for the coming year. Now that we are all 18 again, can we party like we were really 18 again, for 18? (I'm pretty sure we can't) cheers

Happy New Year everybody-myself and several friends got an unpleasant surprise. We thought the trains were supposed to run all night. It turns out that only the main loop around Tokyo does that, and one or two lines into the suburbs. Lameness. I had several club events in mind, and a friend was waiting to get back home. I never got anywhere and my friend was stuck in one of the connecting stations all night. Not fun at all. I made the best of it here but, ended up way more coherent than I planned on the 1st. There are several events in the works before my break is over, so I got over it.
Anyway I hope 2018 rocks the night away and keeps the hounds at bay. Health and happiness to all.

That's still better than the New Year's my wife and I had back at the 2015-2016 switch. We were at Detroit's Greektown asino and she had a mishap on her Rascal scooter. The Casino sent her to Detroit's Receiving hospital and we rang in THAT New Year's in their ER. frown Six months later she had her stroke

Happy new year all. I hope for me 2018 will be as good a 2017. Only bad for me was having to shut out an almost step daughter. She or a friend of her's was carrying a lot of my stuff away. Money value not that important but done a little at a time and a lot of old family hand me downs, some power tools, clothing, gps units, music CD's etc. Most was stuff I know she and I had looked at before. For me health stable pretty good, job stable pay pretty good, (I am 67 in March), 401K etc. good, girl friend to be wife December 2018. Rental houses all full. Cabin project faster than expected and value has more than tripled in a year. Just need to take time to play my guitars once in a while. Jim

As usual, d's putting a diff spin on things.
[Once, in HSchool, I managed to alter a holiday bulletin board's message from "HAPPY NEW YEAR" to the inversion "HARPY NEM YEAP" freak
Better than the consternation it engendered on discovery was the fact that for a full week & 1/2 no one had even noticed it. grin ]

Anywhat, here I'll be kind & only suggest that yer new year be not just as good as yer last but, dang it, better !

& that it mot just involve a happy new year but
HAPPY NEW EARS !

grin "Happy New EARS!" Heh. Yeah, bear in mind too, that some here are old enough to where they have to BUY those "ears", and put them IN each morning. And keep extra batteries on hand. wink

Let's also hope the New Year brings us something worthwhile for those "new ears" to HEAR! smile

Oh it will.

The operating principle is that one needs not just to be open to hearing something new but actively seek out new music to hear.
It's not gonna come calling to you if ya just plug into what y'already are familiar & comfortable with.

When I hear ppl talking abt the terrible, lack-worth nature of modern music all I can think of is what some types have perennially opined abt what they just didn't like or understand.
Think of great-grampa denouncing that hopped up jazz or his nephew squaring off against rock & roll or aunt Fanny complaining abt those talentless hip-hop kids....

The key quality of a real muso is the ability to appreciate the skills & talent that might go into something that they themselves don't particularly like.
Ya dig ?

We now return you to the regularly scheduled programming.

Enjoy yer new ears !

That makes some sense on some level. My Grandmother always warned about "Looking up to try and find the silver lining in the clouds and wind up not seeing the GOLD that's right in front of you." wink
