I was making my daily salad yesterday, and while doing that I sliced a very tiny bit off of my left hand thumb tip, Although the wound was small, I cut a vein and it would not stop bleeding, so I went to my primary care doctor, and he looked at it, and sent me to the urgent care to get stitches, I went there and by the time they called me in, the bleeding had stopped, so they cleaned the wound, and put a compression dressing on it and gave me a tetanus shot and sent me home. The moral of this story is; I can't do my daily practice for some 3 or 4 days at least, and probably longer. Boo Hoo Hoo idk

It is on my fretting hand, not the picking hand. And it stopped me cold, (for at least a week or so), two days practice will bring me back to where I was however so I will muck my way through the time off, and resume as soon as it is possible.

Thanks amigo's It is getting better every day, I still have the compression bandage on it, but I can move it so no blood leaked since they put it on. It has a nice cushion on the tip so if I bump it into something, it cushions the bump. So I will leave that on until it looks gross (Which it is about 1/2 way there already).

Damn, brother, sorry to read this. Hope it heals quickly.

My wife is a chef/caterer, and has gotten more than a few cuts from her chef's knives over time. Only once, did I have to call and ambulance, because I knew we couldn't just bandage up the cut at home, and hope for the best. After that incident, I started looking into these . . .

Cut-proof kitchen gloves

There are a bunch of them available, from different companies, most starting around $12-20, and well worth the investment.

Full and fast recovery to you!

And yeah, those cut-resistant gloves are a good idea. I might get some for my Step-Sons, IF they'll actually wear them... ! AND if they don't simply inspire them to do stupid unsafe things on purpose!

Sorry to hear this as I know you are strict on your routine. I read a few times a person can keep up with some things by mentally doing the practice without actually physically doing it. One time in an experiment they had basketball players spend time thinking about practicing free throws instead of actually throwing the ball and most of them actually did better after a few days. Heal fast and do not rush it. Jim

Thanks jimmac, and Caev. I took the compression bandage off this afternoon, and looked at the wound for the first time since it stopped bleeding when they bandaged it at the Same Day Care Doctors office. It looks decent after the 4-1/2 days the compression bandage was on. I think I can be back in the saddle as soon as the scab comes loose naturally. I don't want to break the scab loose before it's time or it may start bleeding again. Best to wait it out and be finally done with it.

Oh, sure - can't practice your guitar, but you CAN type online. Sounds like one of my kids' excuses.

Just kidding DBM - Heal up quickly, and keep doing the practicing in your mind. It does help. Like in "the Music Man".

Played the guitar today for the first time in a bunch of days. The wound is still healing, but strong enough to withstand a bit of pickin and grinnin, (and I was grinnin all the way through the session) Getting back into it... thu

Glad it's doing well, DBM.

Once the scab comes off, try rubbing a little Vitamin E into the wound; wouldn't hurt to take some, too. Helps with healing and cell regeneration. Might even have a little less of a scar, too. All the best, brother!

Yep the thumb is way healed, 99% anyways, I can't believe how quickly it regenerated, there was a 3/16" hole in my thumb just below the nail end & about 1/16th deep and it actually filled back in. It has a little way to go, the scab is gone, and there is a little bit of dead skin flaking off still, but no bandages and a full practice session today is in progress. Just stopped a bit mid set to check up on the net. Back at it after I type this in.
