Well, while not really fitting for a GUITAR FORUM, this holiday season, I don't care HOW young or "hip" you claim to be, but many of us CAN'T go rockin' around the Christmas tree without hearing BRENDA LEE sing it. :D And she's 73 today. ;) And incidentally, she was born Brenda Mae Tarpley.

And also not a guitar player but a favorite of mine, McCOY TYNER, jazz pianist supreme is 79. ;)

BRUCE KULIK, formerly of Kiss and now with the latest Grand Funk line-up who's 64 today.

And DAN HAWKINS of The Darkness is 41.

Happy day to all.

All I got today is England's oldest rock'n'roll "star" TOMMY STEELE turning 81 this morning. He too, recorded a version of "Singing The Blues" shortly after MARTY ROBBINS in '56.

We've discussed that tune before, but mostly the "whitebread" job GUY MITCHELL did to it. But for a long time( too long I'd say) Mitchel's version was the only one I was familiar with.

Steele's and Mitchell's came out close to the same time, but in two different countries. Steele's version too, was a big hit for him....But still falls short of Marty's.

Monday, December 18th marks the 74th birthday of Rolling Stones guitarist/songwriter Keith Richards. Seriously, who would have ever bet with their own money that Keith would still be around? By the way, if any of you have not read Keith's autobiography "Life", you need to.
I rock; therefore, I am.

Thanks Sharkman! I'm not staying up till midnight tonight so I'll just say a day early:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KEITH RICHARDS! The Rolling Stones are one of my all-time favorite bands. Keith Richards has always been a major inspiration to all of us old rock and rollers who love the Stones! :like:

Take care, Larryz
