Arturia will be there "We will be at NAMM on booth #11910 and... yes, will come with, what we believe, are audacious, inspiring and cool new products.".

Just received by mail

By way of comparison, look at Macworld Expo. That used to be a huge event, especially MWSF, but once Apple pulled out with their last being 2009, it was only a few years before it was gone. Without the draw of whatever Apple was announcing, it didn't draw people like it used to.

Obviously NAMM isn't as dependent on one manufacturer like that, but I totally agree with this:

If your business model is focused on selling into just a few distribution channels, it probably makes sense to just fly out and visit the people who run those distribution channels and skip the expense of a trade show.

I am curious about Korgs keyboard/workstation strategy for 2018. And curious if they will do some kind on 10 day product countdown.

I know that gimmick is sort of cheesy . I am interested in clues prior to Jan 25. Assuming Korg does anything on the workstation front for 2018.

So as far as I can tell, aside from Gibson, other no shows for NAMM will be:

Moog
DSI
Behringer
Access (Virus, though they have been away awhile...)
???

just received an e-mail from Shear Electronics (the kid building the OB-X clone) that he won't be exhibiting at NAMM this year.

Id like an 88 weighted controller with a flat top large enough to put another keyboard on, like an SK1, or Nord Compactg or Sub 37. Something that wouldn't require 2nd tier assembly.

+1. A good quality controller at a reasonable price. I'm in!

This is exactly what I loved about the Yamaha P150 & 300 even though they we're heavy beasts/

One of the problems is clearly the depth of the case. If you figure 6" for keys and another 12" or so for the top keyboard on top you're at 18", which is very deep (really Motif 8 deep). A slab DP might be between 12" - 14" in depth. Would the number of people who want this capability be greater than those who find this to be a huge negative?

Seems like there's lots of changes on the showfloor this year. Don't assume you'll find your favorite vendor in the same spot they were previous years.

The booth numbering system is completely different this year, and I think NAMM has made a concerted effort to really group things together. One of my favorite guitar manufacturers, Tom Anderson Guitarworks, is up on the main floor in the guitar area- and I know that Tom specifically prefers being in Hall E (the basement) where they have been since the 80's.

With regard to trade shows withering, a lot of it is the internet, and a good portion is the cost of exhibiting; there are/were a lot of mandatory labor costs involved. But NAMM is also one of the few places where you can really lay hands on things, very hard to do that anymore unless you want to abuse a retailer's return policy...

Well it's slightly rounded, but this shouldn't be an issue. If the user really wishes to place another board directly ontop (instead of using a stacker), anything with rubber feet will be fine.

Cheers,

good information, James. Thank You. BTW, might you have any information on a stacker for this model? I own 3 different sets of stackers for my vintage keyboards, but am not familiar with any for modern keyboards.

This year adds a new wing to the NAMM show - on the NAMM Show map it's labeled as ACC. From what I can tell, a bunch of the exhibitors who were in Hall A before moved over to this new wing, a bunch of exhibitors who were in Hall B moved to Hall A, etc.. That logic doesn't apply in every case, but generally everything appears to have shifted in that direction.

Kawai does not officially endorse any particular stand manufacturer. However, unofficially, I'm personally a big fan of K&M's products, and use an 18950 at home to support an MP8II. This kind of table stand is ideal for the VPC1 too.

https://produkte.k-m.de/en/Keyboard-stands/Keyboard-tables

According to the website, the 18952 is the official stacker accessory for this stand.

Kind regards,
James

Art has a small format tube mixer.
Curious if it’s any good and might it color APs, EPs, Organs, Strings, Brass from our favorite digital keyboards attractively.

I was just trying to wrap my head around the new floorplan. You're right. It's a pretty major expansion: they've added a large, new two-story convention hall east of the arena and north of the Hilton. You can see the construction site in Google satellite view. and the finished product in Street View .

That new convention hall was a convenient parking lot. I used to take a quick walk over to my car once or twice a day to store NAMM literature—and the occasional purchase—in my trunk. Of course, I don't collect much NAMM literature anymore because there's usually even better info on the Internet.

Here's hoping the new hall adds to the enjoyability of the show, as it will almost certainly add extra walking distance.

Best,

Geoff

I'd love to see a new Kronos 3 with 3 additional sound engines (ahhh, but which ones?) and with the control surface of the Nord Stage 3 Compact.

I would love to see a new generation of Stereo Keyboard Amps on the market.

I´m still using it because of it´s flat top,- and I´m very familiar w/ the action.
I also consider it to be one of the most robust electronic keyboard instruments I ever owned ´cause it´s still alive and works flawlessly since I bought it new in 1989.
Since years I look for a replacement offering better internal sounds, but it seems it will never come before I´m retired.
