I dig the sh!@ out of this dude.
He's multi talented,a multi instrumentalist and songwriter who sings decent backups and plays in a band that tours North America and Europe annually. In addition to playing long stints in the Caribbean every winter. Yeah, sucks to be him. laugh

Pretty much the jam band keyboardist's dream rig. Some folks might prefer a rhodes, but I think Medeski changed the opinion of a lot of folks about that.

Yeah, thanks for posting WD. I have the Tail of 2 Cities DVD, it's great. Although on that he had a Rhodes where the CP4 is now and no way to make an AP sound (!) which I thought was curious...

Great player and I love his Hammond style. Great sensibility and taste. He plays with restraint. cool

You see a lot of rigs and think "yeah, that's clever, that's cool."

Looking at this one though, all I could think was "That...looks...so...much...FUN!!!"

I have a lot of respect for Gov't Mule & Danny's playing. It seems somewhat ironic to me that he's running all these analog electro-mechanical boards through a bunch of digital pedals!

Up until a few weeks ago he had been using a Nord keyboard for AP sounds, the CP4 is new to the rig. I have seen them 5 times in the last 2 years, haven't heard any Rhodes piano. Rarely hear any AP. His sound is Wurlie centric as far as pianos go.

The 200A and the D6 are both running through Line 6 pedals, which are physically modeled, IIRC. I know to some it's splitting hairs. I've seen him playing his 200A in the studio with the M13, so he must really dig it.

I saw him a few years back, and in those days he was sporting two Wurlies, the Hammond and a Clav. The Wurlies made a "U" with the Hammond in between, and I think the Clav on top of one of the Wurlies?

The guy's really a great player. HUGE fan! Didn't know he plays horns and guitar.....?

correct about the "U' with Wurlies on both sides on the B3. Clavinet was always on top of the B3.

Nice video! Wonder what effects he uses on the voyager.

Love how the video suddenly ends as soon he begins to play the guitar btw. laugh

Danny is bad ass. Trying to get our band to do the Rocking Horse version from a Tale of 2 Cities.

That I do not know. I have never seen him use the Voyager live for anything other than spacey effects type of sounds. For example, I have never heard him do a solo like he did in the video during a show.
No synth solo's in Gov't Mule. cop

One of my main influences, definetly... Interesting to see the AP sounds on his rigs... I read one time he saying that he prefered to use wurlys instead of AP on Govt Mule to differ from Chuck Leavell and the other piano-heavy keyboardists that sat down with the band... I tend to do that, too... Anyway, I read it once in an online magazine that had an inside look at the rigs of the other jam scene keyboardists, including him... Never found this magazine, I dont remember if it was an special Keyboard Mag edition or other one... I remember him saying that the crew nicknamed his rig as fort Wakeman... LOL... Anyone seen or read it?

My favorite of Danny Louis's luxuries is his DUAL Wurlies. He places one one each side of the Hammond so he can switch between which instrument he comps with his left hand and which he solos with his right.

My preferred gig set-up is an L-shape with organ to my left, because I'm more likely to comp with organ and solo on piano/rhodes/wurli. But when you're big time like Danny, you just put (electric) pianos on both sides!

as is discussed earlier in this thread, he no longer uses 2 Wurlitzers. A Yamaha CP4 has replaced one. I am going to see Gov't Mule in 6 weeks. I report back if there are any more changes.

Totally agree that a 200A can fit everywhere musically.
Rhodes is better at Dynamics and Jazz, but 200A was meant to be beaten...

A while ago, I remember to have encountered online some kind of a PDF or web page of a magazine (don't remember if it was a keyboard mag edition or something else) that was dedicated to the jam band scene keyboardists. And it had a pretty good piece on Danny Louis and his rig. I remember to read something like the roadies on Gov't Mule nicknamed his corner "Fort Wakeman", or something like that, LOL. Anybody else seen that material? Would love to find it again, tried to search google in many ways, but hadn't any success.
