All of the prior threads on the Kronos LS seemed to trail off at the speculation / pre-release stage or shortly after its release.

Do any of you own one or have you tried one? I'm just wondering about what the semi-weighted action is like.

Played on in a store. IIRC, it felt like one of those budget yamaha 88 keyboards - fullish sized keys, but just no weight behind them. Felt very similar to a lighter version of the Krome 88, if you've played that. Most here hate the Krome 88. Certainly didn't feel like it had much push back - just a weightless action.

I remember thinking it would be okay for anything but piano stuff.

As I mentioned in another thread, I laid hands on the Kronos LS and it felt awful. sick

I have no idea of what market Korg is trying to attract with that KB. cool

I suspect it was an easy way for them to get the weight down (39.2lbs vs. 53.13 lbs). And seeing Roland sell as many VR-09 and FA-06 as they do, they'd give it a shot. But $3499 for a poo action - even attached to the Kronos brains is an awful let down. I'd rather they did a rack or desktop and let us pick an action ourselves.

How do the CX-3 players feel about it, decent enough for organ action?

I played one in a store as well. It's not as bad as the Krome 61 action, but not as good as the Kronos one, somewhere in between.
Similar to what is used in mid-tier MIDI controllers.

They should have just released a 73/76 semi-weighted of the current 61 action. I'd order that on day one.

The weight of the weighted 88 key Kronos is a dealbreaker.
I'd love to have a Kronos because its users universally rave about its flexibility and power and I love the idea of availability of third-party sound sets.
I was hoping the LS keybed was usable because I could convince myself to schlep 40 lbs if the weight was worth it.
For what I play, the SW73 action on the NS2 has been sufficient for my needs so it's not that I need an 88 bottom; I'd just feel like the price of the 61 version is too steep for an 'upper' board. A psychological hurdle maybe...

I'

I will add my worthless 2 cents on that sentiment. I personally think Kronos is over priced. That opinion might change if Korg did some WOW type free OS update.

Anyway, I am not the pres of Korg . So my opinion is worthless smile

If the Kronos is over priced - I can't wait to hear what you think is the right price point for Nord's line up, Greg. And I hope they follow your advice! smile

i did not know that Nord made a work station. I must be out of touch smile

I believe the red tolex(plastic) of Nord has some kind of medicinal , mind enhancing quality. Unfortunately, I am immune wink

You'd think it was a workstation with that big number three on it, right? I mean the Kronos is a number 2 and they wouldn't even throw in the cost of the extra paint to label it so. This must be where there overpriced speculation comes from. At that price, I want a big fat 2 on it! grin

Maybe you are not being fair. The Huge 2 on the logo has specs of gold paint.

Have you looked at the price of gold lately ??? Its an outrage ! wink

A larger '2 ' would increase the cost to $4000. Then I would have a very strong opinion smile

If the LS's action is too light, just buy a Kronos 88. If that's too heavy, get the LS. That's your choices. It ain't rocket science: to have pianistic-style keybed, it's gonna weigh more; if you want a lighter weighted-key, it's not gonna feel like a piano.

I don't understand the confusion here: they're two different keybeds for two different styles of playing...

Pick one, and use it.

Joe,

I've never seen an LS. My question was whether the action was playable. Obviously it's a personal thing because one person's idea of good action may differ completely from the next. Personally, I've been able to make do with a waterfall Nord as my primary action. That said, I trust a lot of people's opinions here.

I believe the best option is the one many have gone with on here - Kronos 61 on top, favorite weighted controller on bottom. This gives you all the sounds you need with both weighted and unweighted key beds and access to the touch screen and all the panel controls. When you use the Kronos, you don't really need any other sound engines, just additional key bed real estate.

It is playable, it's really not bad. It's just not as good as the Kronos action.

I was on the LS last night in the shop. Side by side with the Krome 61.
Also played PC3K6 and Montage 6.
As well as SK and XK clones.

The Krome and LS feel similar but they are not identical. The LS is less preferable to me if needing to perform all the sound families a Kronos is capable of. Both are especially poor for AP and EP. The Montage and PC3 are much preferred for synth semi weight feel. The LS is more similar to an organ action and I would be ok with it if I played the CX-3 most of the time. But if I really needed to do a lot of other stuff from pianos to orch and synth stuff and I wanted a semi weight synth feel the mentioned kurz and yammie models have a better action. If I needed more keys - the Artis7 has been brought up often. Or the Kronos 73... Does this model have a good semi weight synth action on it? I've played the Kronos 61 and felt it was pretty ok too.

Yeah, that wan't directed at you, it's just people are replying to someone that obviously wants 88 keys by stating he should get a 61, that it's worse than this, better than that, etc.

As I get older, I'm considering the LS as my only 88: these old hands have been getting bashed on pianos for 55 years, and the idea of a lighter touch is starting to appeal to me: I was playing Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1 last night and that thought popped into my head. Not because it's demanding and fast, but because it's soft and gentle, and my hands were reveling in a gentler piece.

Thanks for the clarification.

This is all just a way of justifying GAS. I don't need a Kronos at all, certainly not a 61. But if, just if, the action would work for me, I could convince myself that it would be _necessary_.

Zombie alert: Any further comments on getting use to the action? And the durability of the Keybed? I have the 88 key version and it is just too heavy to lug around but love to sound.

I like the action for anything EXCEPT piano. It's just hard to be expressive / dynamic. Otherwise is a great one board solution. I'm putting it thru is paces and getting my money's worth.

I wouldn't have it in a multi board rig. I'd have one 88 note weighted and one 61 or 76 note synth or waterfall action. For for one board only, it's great IMHO.

So I pulled the trigger on the Kronos LS. (A BIG thanks to Mcgoo for his help and guidance.) Came in this morning and so far the action is exactly as described by Mcgoo, And most importantly is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again brother!!!

I've had the Krome for 5 years and was considering getting a Kronos but am wondering if they will be coming out with a new line in the next year or so. I would probably get a 61 myself vs. the 88 due to weight.

The LS is only 8 more lbs than the 61. I think it's pretty manageable.
