OT: Turntables

Recommended Posts

Still have my old Concord/CEC from mid 70s, never sold it, never bought another one. Never sold off my 60s/70s/80s vinyl collection either. So I never had to "go back" to vinyl, it's still there in the living room, whenever I'm in the mood to spin some.

Another great thing about vinyl that hasn't been mentioned yet is the ALBUM COVERS!! Big, beautiful Gatefold sleeves with lettering you can read, and wonderful, vivid artwork.

As Rick Wakeman said in an interview recently, "When we lost vinyl, we lost an awful lot."

And as Carl Palmer said, "With these CD jewel cases, I couldn't see the artwork, or read the song titles and credits properly. I needed one for each eye."

Ahem...

I like placing a record on the turntable, hearing the "thump" of the needle dropping, and just sitting and listening, while I look at the album cover and credits and lyrics.
Stuff and things.

I have both direct and belt drive turntables. I think each is fine. I think the specific design is more important than that the particular mode. Most new turntables are belt drive. I suspect that this is because direct drive would be much more difficult and expensive to engineer and manufacture.

Figured I'd give this a bump. I just got my hands on a Dual 1264 turntable. Belt drive, fully automatic, fitted with an Ortofon FF15XE MKII, and it sounds so pristine. Built like a tank, too.
