Hey guys, I'm getting a new computer soon, and I am wondering if there is a simple tape recorder like program for the Mac. Something similar to Audioshare.

I currently use an old iPad permanently wired up, with Focusrite's Tape app, which is perfect, albeit cumbersome; I'd like to free that iPad up for other things, and would prefer to use a legit computer, so I can easily bring it into other programs.

I see there is a program called "Tapes," which might work, but I'd prefer to be able to trim if possible, or if there's other things out there.

What i am NOT looking for is another DAW type program where i have to set up a song or project; I'd rather a program that just records files and has a browser of recordings.

Thanks in advance for any of your brain droppings on the matter!

The standard answer is a free app called Audacity.
http://www.audacityteam.org/download/

Select your audio inputs, hit record and start playing. You can multitrack if you want to, or not. Regular tape transport controls. Lots of other features in the menus, use them or ignore them. All the editing tools you'd expect to cut, copy, paste, slide, etc.

Ocenaudio is also pretty simple audio recorder/editor.

There's also a $3.99 app on the OSX App store called Audio Recorder which records from the designated input and catalogs your recordings right away at the bottom if its screen. There's a free version with some limitations to test out first if you want.

Also love AudioHijack which can do a lot, but again doesn't have to. It also has simple record source and creates a file library for you. There is a demo version to try before you buy. Price: $49

Re-reading the OP's post, I realize that's all he's looking for so... even better! Win, win, win.
