Fantasy bands...

Recommended Posts

This was something started in the Epiphone forum, only there it's called "Imaginary bands". I thought a slight difference in name would be prudent. I think we did somethinglike this here already, by the memory is foggy....

No "fast and hard" rules here. The line-ups can be any genre and contain musicians still alive or gone from us. I'll kick off with ONE of mine.....

ROCK:

JOHNNY WINTER--guitar(lead), vocals

SAMMY HAGAR--rhythm guitar, vocals

MARK ANDES--bass

GREG ROLIE--keys

DENNIS THOMPSON--drums

I thought a good "Fusion" band would be a mix of some players gathered from several different ones from it's "heyday".

Jan Hammer--keys

Dave Liebman--reeds

Tommy Campbell--drums

or....

Max IS excellent, but hes not a true jazz drummer. Hess more of a rock guy who occasionally dips a toe into jazz. Especially in his work as a late-night talk show drummer.

But I think hes got the skills, and his different perspective on percussion would make for an interesting challenge for HIM and would make those others think & play differently as well.

Have no idea what would come out of this lineup since they're all different styles, but....

Drums - Stewart Copeland

Bass - Victor Wooten

Guitar - Joe Satriani

Keys - Rick Wakeman

Vocals - Freddie Mercury

Dan

Acoustic/Electric stringed instruments ranging from 4 to 230 strings, hammered, picked, fingered, slapped, and plucked. Analog and Digital Electronic instruments, reeds, and throat/mouth.

Im thinking many, many notes would be played.

Correct Larryz, and I'll blame auto correct for to spelling Tai wrong. They are also all 32 or younger. Ì Thought us younger people needed some representation.

Whitefang: Aboriginal Australian and Torres Islander Music.

Not what my fantasty band was, but that is Australian Music. Also called Indigenous Australian Music.

I'm not familiar with Stella and Delta JuJu. But, I have seen Tal playing with Jeff Beck, and she's a super talent on the bass. And, I've seen Orianthi playing with Steve Vai and she's a super talent on the guitar! some really Great talent down under! :thu:
Take care, Larryz

CRIPES!( or, should that be "CRIKEY"? ;) )

I kinda figured what you were meaning JuJu, but I was just havin' a bit of fun pokin' your ribs. Thought that "wink" emoticon would have made that plain. Let's not get all "facebook" in here..... :D

And "mixing" artists from differing genres is OK. It's "fantasy", remember.... ;) I've done that too, in a couple of mine. :)

I think this group could put out some great jazz-inflected prog rock, even some classical pieces; but get heavy when needed:

Drums: Ian Mosley (Marillion)

Bass/Stick: Tony Levin (King Crimson/Peter Gabriel/etc.)

Guitars: Kamran Allan Shikoh (Glass Hammer)

Keyboards: Andy Tillison (The Tangent)

Vocals: Leslie Hunt (District 97)

Violin: David Ragsdale (Kansas)

"Am I enough of a freak to be worth paying to see?"- Separated Out (Marillion)

NEW band Old band

Although the whole idea is "fantasy" line-ups, and there's no need or purpose in "critiquing" anyone's choices, I'll only say that so far i've found no reason to "eyeroll" any of the choices. It's just too bad there's not going to be any CDs of any of them coming our way.... :(

I'm reading a book called Backbeat, Earl Palmer' s story. The book was recommended to me, by a forum member, as a history of Rock music. Earl career spaned from the late 40s to the 90s and he worked with a who's who of recording artists. So with 100s to choose from I'm going to attempt to name an Earl Palmer All star fantasy band. In order get a few more people included I've added a few category.

James Brown: Male vocalist

Barbara streisand: Female vocalist

Jan and Dean: Vocal duo

The Ronnettes: Vocal group

The Everly Brothers: Guitar (I couldn't pic just 1 so!)

Bonnie Raitt: Guitar

Little Richard: Keyboards

Brian Wilson: Bass

Earl Palmer: Drums (The only easy choice)
