He & his partners changed musical & cultural history around the world.

They came at the dawn of not just world-wide communications, which helped, but also at a turning point in modern music which a taken a depressing turn from uplifting excitement toward deadly boringness.

They came outta the most unlikely of places to almost single-handedly shift the axis of the world we live in ways that left nothing untouched & nothing that followed uninfluenced.

Rhythm guitar master (seems simple but try actually playing this for 2 1/2 minutes)

Rest in Peace John, The Beatles were definitely a world turning point and brought new life to the definition of Rock and Roll in their early days. John will always be remembered by those like myself that grew up in the early 60's and took up playing the guitar. What they did as a group (instrumental and vocal harmony) is what still makes them come alive. One of my all-time favorite guitar players is George Harrison and you can see why in a couple of those YT clips. But John was a good guitar player, exceptional vocalist and a great writer IMHO! cool

He was all those things , and they were ALL great. Sad thing is, besides his death, is that in retrospect John gets passed over in regards to acclaim of his musicianship and songwriting skills.

Not by anybody HERE of course, but in the general sense. Over the last 20 or more years I've heard all too often folks go on about McCarntey's "commercial" songwriting success, George finally getting the recognition for songwriting that people all say he should have gotten all the time, and of course, the praise for Ringo's drum work. But most seem to think John was just the rhythm guy and outspoken anti-war and social activist. Nothing about his contributions to the overall "soul" of what The Beatles were about. I'd use the analogy;

"The Beatles without John would have been like a car with only a one speed transmission." wink

JL's final recording.
He plays all lead gtr & synth parts.
Listening back a 1/2 C later these may not strike one as the most creative work but consider how these compare to the work of, uh, Macca, Jagga, etc.

Lennon remained exploratory to the end.

Almost makes ya believe in majik, don't it ?
The truth, though, is that the only majik is that some ppl actually do what they do !

What's also magical was his ability of not only being exploratory, but of also creating such beauty. Both lyrically and musically.

My favorite John creation, surpassing any of the otherwise very good McCartney songs....

And gunned down by an asshole in gun toting America in which he'd embraced as his second home. So sad. He was a controversial figure back in the day, mostly brought on by himself. Bottom line, he was a very good songwriter, musician and arranger. One of my favorites that he wrote is Nowhere Man. Brilliant.
