There was a lot of conversation here earlier in the year about Nord Stage 3. I had actually pre-ordered a Nord Stage 3 compact, but decided to go in a different direction and was able to get a Viscount Legend Live and a Roland FA-07 for the same price as my Nord Stage 3 Compact pre-order and couldn't pass that up or wait all year.

That being said, I haven't heard much about any arrivals of Nord Stage 3 in the US and wonder if anyone in the US has gotten them, or for owners in Europe how they are liking the Stage 3 so far?

Canadian distribution is receiving theirs in the next week or so, retail should have their first order allotment by end of the month. twothumbs

The nord stage 3 88 is great! Ive written some over at the nord stage forum. There where quite a few system glitches and problems which most have been taken care of in the latest systemupdate. Now awaiting the sample editor to support stage 3 to fully be able to replace my stage 2.

+synt is marvelous, keys are improved, screens are really helpful, organ-you heard it before and its a major improvement over 2
-The midiimplementation is not as good as stage 2, for example you only have one midi channel per a/b section instead of per sound engine in each layer a/b.

I'm going to be using the 73 as the anchor for a completely revamped rig. SV on the bottom, haven't decided if I want 88 for that. It does come with an octave-shift button....

Selling NE5D and Stage 88....unless I end up keeping the latter as a studio-only board. Though I think I could probably find a nice-sounding studio board for less than I could get for the NS, even now.

I've had it since August. There were some bugs and some waiting for some software upgrades, but now I've programmed all my sounds and I'm pretty happy. Used it on a few gigs, but nothing wild so far, this weekend it'll get to prove its worth with the cover band.
I'll be selling my Nord Lead and Nord Electro soon.

Mine showed up last nite. Cliff Notes of the initial meeting:
The pianos sound great, the synth section is insane (i'm only an hour into it though), and the organs are Nord's. I def didn't like the leslie sim out of the gate, but i've done zero tweaking, I'm still running through sounds and knobs.

I don't know why but they just include the regular 145 leslie model as the standard out of the box. It sucks. The 145(Close) is a vast improvement, but you have to install a system update and then select it from the menu to get at it. System updates improve a lot of functionality and remove a lot of launch bugs, so make sure you do that before anything else!

Funny enough I just switched my NE5D to this a couple of weeks ago. I guess we all agree it's better...

"better" is subjective. I have owned Nord keyboards for 20 years going back to the original Nord Lead. Always end up selling them. They are rock solid and light weight for sure.

Thanks..

I once returned the stage 2 after buying it, because i couldnt live with its midi implementation..

So i guess, that takes care of my nord GAS.

The midiimplementation in the 2 developed with the instrument and got a major overhaul at one of its updates if I dont remember incorrectly.

A question for any NS3-73 owner... One of the pleasant surprises of the E5D was that the release point for the clav sounds was at the bottom sensor. IOW, you don't have to lift your finger as high to end a clav note as you do a piano note, and this makes the clav more snappy to play. Can anyone confirm this same behavior on the NS3?

I'm also curious to know whether anyone who has played the NS3-73 and the NE5D notices any difference in how the actions play for piano, whether the NS3's aftertouch might alter the positive bottom feel of the NE5D.

Scott: I just did a quick check between a Wurly patch and a Clav patch and it does appear that the Clav cuts off at the lower trigger point as you thought/hoped.

Cheers

Excellent, thanks! This is why the NE5D has been my favorite board to play clav from, despite the lack of the release samples that sound pretty cool elsewhere. Unfortunately, you can only take advantage of this on the Nord's own clav sounds because, at least on the NE5D, the low release point is not transmitted over MIDI. I hope they fix that at some point, as the lack of MIDI support for that feature also prevents getting the same effect if recording into and playing back from a DAW/sequencer. Unless you actually record the audio, it will never sound exactly the same as it did when you actually played it.

Glad I could finally answer a question for someone here.
I don't use my equipment in the same manner as most here, so unfortunately I can't offer much assistance.
I do visit here almost every day now that I am retired.

Showed up this afternoon. Spent quite a bit of time with it this afternoon/evening/night...early morning too really.

I'm new to Nord but it seems like a really great sounding board.

The keybed is comparable to my Forte but maybe a smidgen heavier on the action by way of comparison.

Haven't played it with the band yet, but on it's own the pianos are very satisfying. I knew I'd like the organs as I'd heard them before. The synths are better than I expected.

Haven't tried the midi stuff yet and might not for a while. I'm getting ready for a couple of big shows and I'm not going to tear apart my #1 rig to try it out live until maybe December.

I send it back..
It was good and fun, but just not the right tool for use with mainstage/vst

So i went for the yamaha montage 8, and i ordered the rev2 rack to give me a real synth feel in my creative corner...

How did it not work with mainstage? Longtime Mainstage user here. I've used Mainstage with a Dx-9(!), S80, S90xs, Hammond XKC-3, and Kurz Forte.

I'm seriously wondering what you couldn't get it to do?
