Truly I have never seen the "Honeycomb" Jimmie Rodgers perform before the other day in that old Sullivan clip, so had no idea that was his method of playing. And BTW

Neither Rodgers "copped" anybody's name. Both were given the name James at birth, incidentally, the "Honeycomb" Rodgers born just a bit less than four months after the long ago country singer died. And Havens was eight years the "Honeycomb" Rodger's junior and didn't release his first LP until 9 years after "Honeycomb" was a hit.

And that "thumb over the neck" style might just be coincidence more than anything else. wink

And unlike a lot of my friends, I was a bit "into" Havens for a couple of years before Woodstock. "Handsome Johnny" being a long favorite of mine.
