An occupational hazard for me, and maybe you too. The quote is from "area 51 recording"
I played a recording session yesterday and a darned Ed Sheeran song is stuck on repeat in my head.
Any suggestions for how to deal with it?

Very funny, cute kids, effective too. Tonic Dominant Dominant Tonic,, repeat

The Ed Sheeran song is Tonic third in bass SubDominant Dominant ala Marvin Gaye.
Only Ed does not have the grease on the groove that the Detroit crew had.

Thanks

Thinking Out Loud. Pretty good song. I hear equal parts Van Morrison and Marvin Gaye. Van Gaye.

Star Spangled Banner always works. Maybe go for the hard stuff and try Rosanne Barr's version of it. Be sure to have a chaser lined up.

AAAARGH!! And I thought it was only on The Fan 590 Toronto!!

The worst ear worm for me has always been the Ford chimes. You know, " (does my) lo-ver feel " from "Tammy's In Love."

Thanks, buddy. Now I'll have that going in my noggin all day.

I did read somewhere that if you have an earworm you're supposed to sing the whole song thru a few times, not just the catchy parts. By completing the song the writer claimed it would give your brain some "finality" that doesn't occur when you just hum or sing the chorus or hook.

If that doesn't work, you might be suffering from Schumannism. Let me ask you: Does the earworm involve the note "A" at all?

The best cure is of course another song to obsessively roll thru your mind. The horn parts alone make the song. But then so do many other things.

This will make you dance in your seat.

This song will cure you. I think it sounds better a minor third up, but what the hey. It's a lovely little ditty:

I get earworms all the time. The worst is when I hate the music.

Best cure is putting on headphones and blasting with something off the charts, like Brain Salad Surgery or wild Jerry Garcia solos.

Anything that sears the soul smile

As far as I'm concerned, this is the king of the earworms.

In fact, I found the video, but was too scared to watch it, for fear of it getting stuck in my head again, endlessly playing 24/7. Aaaaarrrggg, its trying to get in my head, and i didnt even play it. hitt deadhorse

Unfortunately the grandkids love it.

Sorry John, I don't know how to get rid of them. But I'm also watching this thread also for a cure,

This topic immediately brought to mind a very pointy and applicable episode of the comic strip "The Duplex," but it would involve slagging a pop band that doesn't have it coming. Having social filters can be so inconvenient. smirk

I was sort of half clowning and half serious. The Everly boys were favorites of mine as a boy. Later on I thought about them in this simple way.
They harmonize in what sounds like thirds, or maybe sixths . In my child mind, it was third like. And those constant thirds have great power to arrest attention. Hopefully pulling the mind off the ear worm !

I also chose a few strong melodies that were particularly unusual
Night on Bald Mt was and remains a favorite... object to coax mind away grin

I hope my cure did not make it worse!

No, Dream is a great song, it's just got such a strong hook to it, it's hard to get it to leave your head. Lots of songs I really like are this way.

When Foghat came out with the song Slow Ride, at first I loved it. It's a very long song and after hearing it many times, it just would not leave my head, causing me to start changing the radio station if I heard it coming on. I'm ok with it now, every now and then.

As an adult musician, I have never analyzed All I have to do is Dream,
But I just now listened briefly and I am very curious about those two parts.
There is something very special about Everly Bros that I need to look at.
