Hello guys!

I'm a guitar player and software engineer from Italy, I've been playing guitar for 20 years, I started with hard rock - heavy metal, then the Blues and now I'm studying Gipsy Jazz. I've been to the US 3 times, one thing I liked is that at the Guitar Centers you can try any guitar you like, while here we always have to ask the permit laugh laugh

Thanks for accepting me here!

Welcome to the forum ItalianGuitar. Hope to hear a lot from you, either music-wise or opinion/thoughts-wise. I'm not sure how many(if any) European members we have in here. Seems a few others come from Asian countries. Nothing wrong in that, it's just nice to find there's some wider international interest in this place. smile

Howdy, IG!

I was an Army Brat, and do some traveling myself, so I've been to Italy 3 times: Rome 3x, Assisi, Florence, Venice/Murano and Pisa. Beautiful country; soooo much history, art, and cuisine. like

Hope you enjoy hanging out here.

Yes, welcome to the GPF, ItalianGuitar!

All of those players and bands on your list are incredible, just great! A lot of distinctive, individually recognizable sounds and styles there, too.

Man, Bireli Lagrene just strips gears! One of the best guitar performances I ever heard- and can NOT find any more- was Bireli playing "Cherokee" live with a big stage band (lots of horns, etc.) and a violinist (not sure if it was Stéphane Grappelli). He was, s far as I know, playing a big American/Gibson-style arch-top/carved-top type of a guitar, instead of the more usual (for him) French/"Gypsy Jazz"-style flat-top, as well, and with more of a neo-Bebop-Jazz style...

Well, we seem to be expanding our community in a way we've nor since a decade ago.
Cool !

I notice that 1st on yer list of fave gtr players is Steve Morse.
You may be happy to hear that the Dixie Dregs have just reunited & plan to tour.

I was wondering...

I've looked at several Italian guitar and amp brands online over the years. Do any of them stand out to you? (Good or bad.)

Welcome!

And when I hear "Italian guitar" I can't help but think of Wandré, the Salvador Dali of guitar makers!

Welcome ItalianGuitar, nice to meet you.
We have a great group here, I hope you have time to get to know everyone.
Actually, a few years ago I went on a quest to find an overdrive made in Italy, called Brilliance Unit. I tried contacting the company, asked friends etc. but no luck. I don`t know if you ever saw or tried one, they looked like this:

Yeah I'm happy for the Dixie Dregs! Also I had the pleasure to see Steve Morse touring with Deep Purple several times, what amazing player!

Regarding italian gear, no, I don't own any italian stuff, but I've heard great things on Giulio Negrini Guitars

Yeah, Wandré is remarkable!

There was EKO in the 60's, who made guitars for Vox as well as under their own name. Those were absolute pieces of s**te & I imagine the Italian guitar industry is still trying to recover its reputation.
Expats D'Angelico & D'Aquisto did all right for themselves.
