Obviously not all forum members visit and/or post every day like some of us, but there are a few who have contributed in the recent past but haven't been around in awhile. One of those is Lindaru. She was a regular part of the gang here but dropped out of sight last April.

Who's on your "Where have they gone" list? idk

There was a real curmudgeon from Boston that may have suffered ill health. He had a short fuse and was a regular. Don't remember his name, but I miss him.

WMP: last post was in 2014

Oh, I miss the Sven from a couple years ago. The new Sven is great and often hints that the old Sven is perhaps only a keystroke away.

Jeff Learman. I think he's the reason I discovered the forum - I googled his Clavinova sample. I hope he's OK.

Cheers, Mike.

This sort of thing really hits you when you've been on a forum 15-20 years, especially the ones that are more "general" and not focused on something like this one is.

Man, no kidding... those who have already been mentioned all gave me a pang too.

One poster I wasn't necessarily a big fan of at the time, but whom I miss now that he's gone, is Bill@WelcomeHomeStudios (Was there a .com at the end of that?)

And yeah, once you toss in the handful of longtime members who crossed the line one too many times and faced dB's "not mad, just disappointed" face, that lifts the corner on a little hole in my heart. frown

There was someone who was here several years ago... Chas or Chaz something. Used to post like 5 or 6 threads a day.

Cygnus64 and Dave Horne are on Facebook, I'm friends with both of them there. My guess is a lot of people who came here for the more social aspects and not the tech stuff stopped visiting as much when Facebook got bigger. I saw the same thing happen on a dog training board I was on, it's traffic is minimal anymore when it used to be hundreds of posts a day.

Posto ergo sum. If one does not post, does one exist?

I've been mostly absent. Little kids under foot and not playing in bands, therefore no gear to discuss. But being here is good for my musical motivation, so I should try harder.

What about the young Canadian guy in the Floyd tribute band? (Does that narrow it down to about 5 people?) Was a time when he was in just about every thread.

Even people you often disagreed with, you miss them when they disappear.

I talked to Wayne in 2012 as he had a good handle on the music scene there. We exchanged numbers because I knew I would be in Boston. I had a feeling he had been through a lot.I was in Boston competing in Judo in 2012 and 2013 but we could never hook up, we couldn't make it happen for some reason. Plus I was with my family. He was a cool guy as I remember and we were talking a bout gear, music and backline stuff there in Boston. He just dissapeared??

Sorry I post as "soapbox" so rarely, Robert. I miss those people—and those days—too. Let's add steadyb and Magpel to that group, shall we?

I think it's Facebook's lure that grabbed Jeff and Lee, plus in Lee's case a bit of forum burnout as she spent too many years at the helm of one of Harmony Central's forums. I last spotted Dan arguing in HC's political forum, but that was years ago. I have the impression that Valky has moved on from music.

Best,

Geoff

A few more from the early days, now absent:

Steve LeBlanc, Gus Lozada, Griffinator, Rod S, meccajay, Geosync, DJ Drunken Master, Dave Pierce, Steve Force, Botch, MidLifeCrisis, SFOracle, Dan O, SilverDragonSound, Red Winger, SteveRB...

Honorable mention to alphajerk and Tedster, who never posted a lot in this forum but who posted prolifically at this site.

Last, but not least, Craig Anderton, who started the whole ball rolling, but who rarely stops by anymore to enjoy it.

Best,

So much has happened, so DocTor88, thanks for bringing me back because life had grabbed ahold and tornadoed me to other places.

Some important anniversaries . . . July 19th I had my second anniversary here and July 29th was the anniversary of Billy Ricci's passing.

Now on to more stuff.

Dawson stopped doing the comedy thing with me. I told him I would keep going as much as I could on my own, so have been making videos of some of the things as well as having made videos entirely new using some of the characters I have control over.

Partnered up with some other people for Spreaker radio stuff and was doing that. Had to basically delete where I had my web site and am in the process of making new ones now as we speak.

Starting in May and even now, dealing with in-laws poor health issues and their needing to move 150 miles from where they were, the sale of the property up near us and getting them in multiple trips to their new place. Still hauling stuff the old owners of the new place just left there that is basically junk appliances and stuff.

The new video site I am a part of takes up quite a bit of time as it is an ongoing development with upgrades and beta testing of those upgrades, plus collaboration on style changes and what not.

In that time I have also made 65 videos for the site since the beginning of June.

There is the occasional evening (actually around 11:00 p.m. to midnight), where I take the cover off of my MicroKORG and play those mini keys!

I have not written any new music of late but hoping to again soon. No new music purchases.

Sorry to have vanished but I am still here and would love to have a cyber coffee or cyber cheers with you all soon!

Will try not to be so delinquent!

smile

I saw him when we went to Boston in 2013, right after the Marathon Bombing crap. I talked to him a few times after that but it got harder and harder to get a hold of him. Lots of times, he'd kind of end the call with a 'I don't want to bother you with my problems' sort of thing. Once in a while I try to email or call him, but I never hear anything.

The shame is, I spoke to his sister once, but I never got her real name nor his brother's (aka Freddo) otherwise I'd contact one of them and see how Wayne was doing.

I checked into Facebook (have not made it to E-Mail) where DocTor88 messaged me, so thank you, too! Not sure if we are connected on Facebook?

Will go check E-Mail.

Ah... didn't know you had been officially summoned. I'm just the one that started this thread and mentioned your absence.

I personally don't like Facebook for this kind of thing because I don't log on there everyday. This format is so much easier.

FWIW, this forum is still pretty active compared to the bass forum, on which I think I am one of less than ten remaining (yet infrequent) posters. A lot of people never came back to that one after the forum "disappearing act" last year -- whereas the guitar player forum is actually becoming more active of late, and this keyboard forum seems to have been attracting a lot of new people the past two years.

I wasn't on forums yet when this one started, so didn't have the awareness that some of the mentioned people were essentially co-founders (like DanS) -- even though it's easy to spot this info if one bothers to look. Good to hear updates on all those people. Many of us are not here for social reasons and so don't participate much (and are too busy producing anyway, but I'm not referring to myself as "vanished"), but it's always good to see someone return after an absence.

What's interesting is this forum is actually very much alive when message boards have seemed to go out of style.

It didn't help that HC p!ssed off many members with their horrific "upgrade" some years ago. They lost a LOT of members from that, myself included.

Anybody remember The-Gas-Station? That's a ghost town now. Most people have abandoned Yahoo groups because of all the spam.

VSE is pretty active but there is a lot of misinformation on there getting passed around as fact.

Analogue Heaven and Synth DIY are mailing lists and not message boards but they have been active since day one. I've been on AH since 1997.

Admittedly I still post on HC especially the Backstage with the Band forum. I liked Pat Coast over there. That guy is really insightful.

I have not been on HC in many years. Not even sure I know how to find that forum or if my login still works there.

One forum member I don't remember seeing here in a long while is The Pro aka Jim Eshleman.

I was just doing a search to see if I could figure out when he was last active - there was some kind of a heated debate a few years ago that seemed to lead to his resignation, from what I can tell. I totally missed it the first time around.

Kind of a dumb argument to leave a forum over. That's too bad he was around in 2003. HC was still very active then.

What happened to Gensue, was that her handle....she was always on the jazz piano posts and commenting that SK had more substitutions in his playing than straight ahead chords busting his fairly substantial chops!?

No, it was Gangsu wasn't it ... hitt

Nope, she's still posting....must be me that's not around as much!
