Actually, new tolex and new hardware from Vintage Vibe. It needs a new lid and am debating whether to get a standard black or sparkle (baby blue, red or silver). Sparkle is twice as much, actually a lot of money (~$500). Needs new cheek blocks, then it's going to look pretty damn amazing. The Rhodes itself is 1973. It was David Ell's instrument so he spent a ton of time working through it, but the case was trashed. It has the Harmonic Clarifier active EQ installed (three bands), sounds much better than the Rhodes EQs. When I get those few last parts it's going to look as good as it sounds.

ah, David Ell. Knew him from the Rhodes Yahoo forum which he single handily destroyed. I remember he always thought the "Sheep" from Pink Floyd's Animals was the definitive Rhodes sound.

I've had him work on a lot of my stuff as well as bought pianos from him. If left to his own, he would go after the Chick Corea, emphasizing harmonics vs. fundamental but he would adjust to your taste. Sometimes he would be too aggressive with the action, trying to get it to be so fast that the piano would choke when it hard. That's probably my biggest complaint, but I always found that he would try accommodate my wishes. I know he spent many, many hours trying to get the notes consistent with the longest possible sustain. It's a ton of work. I know there are other techs out there who I'm sure do a great job, but he was relatively close by and I enjoyed working with him. After the recession hit, business dropped off considerably for him and I don't think he's doing much any more.

Fantastic. Pure envy. grin Let us hear it when you can!

Btw it's too bad that the Mark 7 never came to fruition. It was a fantastic instrument, probably the best Rhodes I have ever played.

That looks beautiful. I used to own a 1970 73 suitcase which I bought used, but it did not look nearly that nice, and I sure it was not set up nearly as nice as yours, even when I bought it.

Wow, what a beautiful instrument !

I really hate I had to sell my mkI and mkII (w/ wooden keys) more than 2 decades ago because where I lived, there were no service parts available anymore .
