I'm in the market for a new amp. I just heard an amp I really like the sound of.

The power tubes are two 6973s. Would this be a risky purchase. I've never had an amp with these tube. I wouldn't want to buy and amp and not be able to get replacement tubes in a few years.

Are 6973 tubes rare?

It seems like they are somewhat rare, expensive, and very high quality. A 6V6 design improvement type according to the search I did on Google.

Thanks. I really dig the sound of the new Supro Neptune Reverb. 6973s are a tube Supro has used in the past.

6973's may be a little harder to find in the future. If I were picking an amp that uses them, I would buy a couple of extra sets of matched power tubes. They will last indefinitely in the box and you'll probably get up to 5 years of use on each set (so you would be in good shape for the next 15 years or so)...6L6's (my favorites) will be around for a long time and will be easier to find IMHO. cool

Yes that is what worries me. My Twin and Boogie use 6L6s. The amp I was thinking about getting has been the Boogie RectoVerb 25. Its 25 watts also with nice headroom and uses EL84s.
