I'm temporarily filling the keys bench for singer Rebecca Downes. She's something of a rising star of the British blues scene, with lots of plays already on national radio here in the UK.

We're doing a couple of festival headliners, then it's on to a UK support tour with Snakecharmer (Adam Wakeman on keys, Laurie Wisefield of Wishbone Ash, Neil Murray from Whitesnake).

I realise that this is meat and drink to a lot of you on here but for someone only now doing the sort of stuff, musically speaking, that he should have done decades ago, it's exciting beyond words.

Aidan this is a big deal. Very nice! What a tribute to your skills that you've been chosen to fill in. Only good things can come of this. We've all had to 'temporarily' fill in on keys before and seen it turn into 'permanently'. If not that at the very least you'll be meeting tons of folks and opening up tons more opportunities. This is how you 'level up'.

Best of luck with it, can't wait to hear more.

I thought this was going to be about Aidan throwing in the towel - putting on the shirt and tie to sell paperclips and file TS reports. So glad it is not!
Enjoy!

Ah. I was using English English, rather than American English! "Chuffed" is extremely pleased. "to bits" is like to pieces. As in "I hate those meeces to pieces" (cartoon circa 1960, possibly Sylvester the cat?). I'm showing my age now.

Anyway, I'm chuffed to bits for Aiden, he is an excellent bloke. When I had to give up playing, he sent me a lovely pm, sympathising, and giving helpful and timely advice, probably because he had empathy due to going through troubles of his own. I was really touched, and his pm really helped me at the time. I have loads of time for him, and wish for as many good things as possible to come his way.

He's a top bloke. (Hope I don't have to translate that!)

How can a response be from the OP if it's not from the OP? idk

True... And we're all very proud of our man Aidan. In fact, if we could, I am certain many of us would like to buy him a brew.

But we need a proper brew to go along with a proper grown-up job.

Is there a (US) domestic beer that would satisfy a proper Englishman such as Aidan?

A little help here, please. I'm guessing PBR isn't going to cut it.

Tom

Thank you kindly, Tom. Actually, this Brit boy has a particular weakness for Belgian abbey beers...especially this bad boy – ABV 11.3%. Careful with that axe, Eugene...

That vid was your first gig with them? I love how much fun you seem to be having. Congrats on the Germany gigs. Hoping to be at the Glasgow gig on the 26th.

Excellent, Aidan!

I don't want to derail this thread with talk about beer. (Although, if it was going to be derailed, a discussion about GOOD beer is, I believe, pertinent to us musos.)

You've got a lot of support and love from your friends here, Aidan.

My best to you!

Tom

Well, went to see Rebecca Downes tonight, unfortunately with the "other" keyboardist. Aidan, if you're hanging with those guys, you must be a hell of a player!

One of the best gigs I've been to in years. I saw Joanne Shaw Taylor last year, and Ms Downes knocked her into a cocked hat. What a singer!

I even bought a CD, and I NEVER do that, not in forty five years of going to gigs.

Thanks Frank, Rebecca is a real talent and deservers to arrive. I'm sure Nigel delivered on keys, too – he's a great player.

Nadroj, hope to see you in Glasgow!

Sorry, I was so taken with the wonderful vocals that I forgot to mention the rest of the band!

The drummer was restrained, he played to what the songs demanded. Along with the bass player, he was very tight and professional, they made for a great backline.

Nigel on keys, nothing flashy, just got on with the job. I thought he was a bit underused, due to the setlist performed, but on the couple of occasions he did cut loose, he was excellent. If I had have been on the desk, I would have had him a touch higher up in the mix.

The lead guitarist was a revelation, I was hugely impressed with his playing, rich and varied. His backing vocals weren't bad either.

I loved the way that the sound levels of the band were loud enough, without being overpowering. Every musician seemed to be playing for each other, no egos on show. The whole experience left me (and my better half) vowing to go and see the band again. Great stuff!

Isn't the Glasgow gig on the 18th? Be great if it they are doing a gig on the 26th as that works for me.
