OK, I've always been a huge CB fan on all levels: lyrics, rhythm, instrumentation, etc. Plenty of example of people playing his stuff and blowing it out. And later in life he had more than a few blow-out moments.

Sold my local Grateful Dead band on the idea that we should do a Chuck Berry tribute set. Not like the Dead did it (they sort of didn't bring game in most cases), but to go back to the literature and make it sing.

BTW, from my keyboard player perspective, it's all the stuff I like to do.

Everyone is into it. Should be awesome!

^ Yeah the song in Pulp Fiction. It's the one people under 40 are most familiar with.

It broke down by age. Anyone 50 or older immediately said "great idea!". Anyone younger sort of had a quizzical look.

So I sent them a bunch of videos of other bands doing Chuck Berry tunes: Stones, Springsteen, Dead and others.

They had no idea how much he's been covered by others.

We'll see

That's great!!

Seriously, we did a few CB tunes at rehearsal tonight. Of course, they're dead easy to learn once the guitar players learn the signature parts.

The best part? Piano playin' dude can spank dem keys all night long with his favorite old-timey rock and roll parts. It was a fun improv workout.
