Chuck Berry has died at the age of 90. A true Rock and Roll legend of our time. It's a sad day in the news and a sad day for all the guitar players out there that love playing his music. He taught us all how it's done IMHO! I will miss having him around and will always enjoy playing and singing Johnny B. Goode! RIP Mr. Berry... cool

My MAIN MAN! Damn!

Came back from the store and walked in just as the local news announced it. And why NOT? Been a cold, rainy and dismal day already. LAST thing I needed today, or any OTHER day.

I'd confidently say that in the second half of the 20th century, he, with JIMI close on is heels, oh, hell....let's say the BOTH of them...probably spurred more guys to pick up a guitar and want to learn to play than any OTHER rock'n'roll artist. Was a time if you bragged you could play "Johnny B. Goode" and PROVE it, you were IN!

Yeah, you can bet all remaining weekend I'll be splitting my system's speaker cones and cracking the windows playing all the discs in my box set. On 11!

If you tried to give "Rock n Roll" another name, you might call it "Chuck Berry". -John Lennon

Thank you Chuck.

RIP Chuck Berry, 90 years old, man he had a great run. I was jitterbugging to his tunes on the Jersey Shore in the 50's as they were released. A rock and roll legend.

RIP Chuck, I put many a quarter in the jukebox listening to your stuff at Gus's Luncheonette on the bay at 25th and Central Ave Ship Bottom N.J. during the summer months of each year.

I don`t even know what to say-a momumental loss for music everywhere.
It`s not even just about guitar-people play Johnny B. Goode on anything with strings.
End of an era brothers and sisters, simple as that.
RIP Chuck, you were freakin amazing.

I saw on Facebook, posted by the George Harrison estate, that the very first song played by the Beatles on their very first US gig was "Roll Over Beethoven".

There were a lot of people who truly were the fathers of rock & roll, (it took a village) but Chuck insured that rock & roll would be an electric guitar driven force. RIP.

I hope that means you're referring to something he recorded before he died, and not being like the guy a buddy of mine knew who one night back in the '70's went on in a "Columbian fog" about some album that Jimi Hendrix recorded AFTER he died! freak

I have heard there is a new record coming out that he recorded just before his 90th birthday (and therefor, he recorded it before he died)... cool

I'll sure be keeping an eye(and ear) out for THAT one, for certain.

But re: my buddy's friend: Try as we did, we still couldn't convince him that he was probably thinking of one of those LPs that were pressed from tapes he made BEFORE he died and released AFTER. I had one(recieved as a gift) called "Midnight Lightning". Wasn't all that great, but also wasn't all that bad.

But the guy was CONVINCED that the LP he was talking about WAS recorded AFTER he died! freak facepalm

Hendrix left a lot of tapes in various stages of completion. His producer, & later his estate, have compiled & in some cases brought in musicians to finish these songs. That's where the post mortem albums have come from. So, technically one could say that they were partially recorded after Jimi's passing, but it's a stretch.
And of course, the remaining Beatles finished a couple of John's demo tapes, which were released as Beatles tracks to accompany the Anthology series of out-takes, alternative tracks & unreleased material.

My kids bought me the Beatles Anthology which was interesting. There have been some other post mortem duets which have been
performed live like Elvis and Lisa Marie Presley, Nat King and Natalie Cole and Hank Sr. with Hank Williams Jr. that I have liked too... cool

@Larry---

Was that the multi-disc Anthology CDs? Or the VIDEO Anthology? I have both, and both ARE fascinating.

SCOTT: Sure, you could "technically" say that. But HE didn't do any of the post mortem recording, and THAT'S what that goober actually believed!
